I'd say it might be too long for a couple of reasons.

1. It's only a 2 minute song and the bass didn't come in fully until more than halfway through. So it's a percentage thing in that case.

2. It FEELS too long because there are 2 moments of somewhat empty space that make it feel longer to me. The first one in the beginning was a big dropoff for me personally. Then the next one came at 00:47 and that was a long one! At that moment it seemed clear that it was going to immediately come back in with a groove but it still kept it real low. I think the feeling that comes across for me is "Why am I waiting so long to get groovin?". To be clear, there is a groove in this whole intro, but the dance vibe is taking relatively too long to get there in my humble opinion.

You had some nice ideas in there though. Keep up the good work!

I always like your work Andre and this one is no exception, but I also felt like I was waiting for the typical amapiano log drum rhythm to kick in to give it that genre identity. As it stands its lovely laid-back sparse piece, and although I can see why it wasn't forwarded I'm sure you'll find a home for it.

Okay ,thank you guys, I guess I was thinking the intro is the 5-6 second bit before the first edit point and not looking at it beyond that.

thank you.

FWIW: my comment wouldn't be 'Intro too long' - rather, 'lack of discernible main melody'...
which is not a knock. What I mean is that by 10+ seconds in I was anticipating there to be one;
some 'signature melody line' that let me settle into the track.

However - instead; it just kept a soft, suspenseful build - that could be useful just for that reason.
It's not a song with that sort of structure. I would think it might be just what a music supe could use.

TBH: I didn't hear any Intro at all. It's just a consistent build throughout.
Unusual, but kinda cool at the same time.
HTH,
Cheers.

So a section before the first edit point is not necessarily considered an intro?

Just want to know for future.

thanks

Good question; not sure if this is a 'professional answer' - but an "Intro" seems to suggest that there's "something more about to happen..."
i.e. as just the set-up or a taste of something; not necessarily just an edit/stop/change.
Your mileage may vary... and others may have a different perspective.

Hey Andre
The intro too long thing seems to me to be mainly a genre thing here. In other genres, it might not be an issue. I know very little about the genre but sampled a few tracks on line. The ones I heard came out of the gate with the drum groove. That's probably what the screener was saying. Jeees! Another genre name! Just what I need, LOL!
