Ambient Soundscapes Instrumentals forward

Post by RPaul » Wed Apr 17, 2024 3:46 pm

Every once in a while, I try something different. This time it was for a recent listing for Ambient Soundscape Instrumentals and/or Instrumental Cues, and I just learned my submission, which I ended up calling "Epiphany" (how do you name instrumentals???), got forwarded:

https://www.taxi.com/members/2RucHBvoSL ... w-epiphany

Going for this one was partly inspired by Covid-induced laryngitis, which meant some time of not being able to do anything involving singing (including a live piano/vocal gig I'd had scheduled). But I was also eager to try some relatively new toys that I hadn't yet had an opportunity to use, especially some of Arturia "Augmented" instruments (I ended up using the piano, woodwinds, and voices). It might have ended up being an all-Arturia set of virtual instruments (I also used the latest version of Pigments and their Prophet VS -- I almost also used Prophet V, but ended up taking it out due to a low-end problem I was having in an earlier mix I'd hoped would be final), but Steinberg had also given a free copy of UA's PolyMAX Synth to Cubase Pro 13 users, so I wanted to try that out, too, and ended up using it. The project also gave me the opportunity to play with a number of plugins, especially of the "creative" variety, that I don't often get the chance to use on my more mainstream projects.

The recording took a lot longer than I'd been hoping, but I was liking how it came out, even if I wasn't feeling all that optimistic based on the results of a few past experiments with meditation music, drones, etc. I think this may be my first ever forward of a piece without an obvious melody. :D

The listing text read:
Lots of AMBIENT SOUNDSCAPE INSTRUMENTALS and/or INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a Great Music Licensing Company with lots of Film and TV placements.

This Library is looking for several Instrumentals (and/or Cues) in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

"Light Breath" by Embers Of Winter
"An Ending (Ascent)" by Brian Eno
"Incipits" by Elviras
"A Meaningful Moment Through a Meaning (less) Process" by Stars of the Lid

Please submit well-crafted Ambient Soundscape Instrumentals and/or Instrumental Cues that help create a relaxing and introspective atmosphere. Your submissions should have modern electronic-based instrumentation that falls in the general ballpark of the examples, and can range from "drone-like" to having subtle melodic movement. Keeping your arrangements on the simpler side could work best for this opportunity, as anything too busy or distracting could take away from the peaceful and tranquil feel needed. Arrangements need gradual movement and a slow progression of new ideas to keep them from sounding monotonous or lifeless. Your productions and any virtual sounds or samples you use should be high-quality and current-sounding.

IMPORTANT: Please do NOT include any sound effects in your music such as animal sounds, waterfalls, wind chimes, raindrops, etc.

Your submissions should be roughly 1.5 minutes long for Cues, and about 2 to 4 minutes long for Instrumentals, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Please do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so please be sure the Instrumentals and/or Cues you pitch for this opportunity are NOT already signed with any other Companies or Catalogs. Any sync fees will be split 50/50 with the Company. You'll get 100% of the Writer's share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's share. You must own or control your Masters and Copyright to submit. Please submit as many Instrumentals and/or Cues as you'd like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Saturday, April 13th, 2024. TAXI # S240413BN

Great results! I am particularly intrigued by the very "active" drone bass.

Congrats - even if it was surprise - I really like the track and could easily hear it used in space exploration, Elon Musk Falcon 9 launch
or something like that. It stirs the imagination.
Cheers.

Thanks, in listening to the reference tracks, I was hearing a fair bit of modulation in the bass, especially when I listened in my car and it was shaking things with resonance. I initially wasn't going to use a bass at all, but that convinced me I needed something there. The notes really just move with whatever I was detecting the chords (clusters?) to be at any given time, but beyond what was in the Prophet VS patch itself, there are several plugins that tweak, and modulate, things further. The whole thing really was just a big experiment.

I'm laughing at the Musk reference, but I'll take it. :) Thanks.

Well - it's only because I can see the launched rockets from my front porch. Quite the spectacular sight... as they approach out of the northern sky and head way down over the Baja peninsula.
:? :o 8-)
Maybe your track will 'land' in a StarLink ad... LOL
