Need explanation on feedback

Post by MelleMelCreations » Wed Apr 24, 2024 12:54 pm

I just got this return feedback (still batting 100) this is the comment wrote.

I think you could improve this song by
Don't let the strings overpower the brass, especially the main melodic lines. You could also use more CC info to modulate the string sound to achieve a more natural performance.

What is CC? (Channel compression, cinematic control)

Please help..

Pertaining to strings performance I’m assuming MIDI Continuous Controller. A string libraries “realism”, besides arrangement, in particular legato is achieved by the use of CC data. Most libraries utilize CC #11 (expression) and CC #1 (modulation). Other CC#’s may be utilized depending on your string library. Legato sections come to life when these controller values are automated within your arrangement. For example: automating expression (CC 11) values from 0-120 gradually for example, at the start of a chord, will slowly fade in strings volume or energy and not be so abrupt / synthetic in starting. Adding modulation (CC 1) gradually alongside expression will add more realism as well, depending on your library too. How much to use is really up to how your arrangement is IMO.
