Congratulations on all your success Mark! Thanks for sharing this. I'm starting year four, and I find it really enlightening to read about your experience in this industry.
Thanks, best of luck with your year four - Everyone's path is unique and no two journey's are the same but hopefully it demonstrates that a long term mind set is what's required in this game.

Haha - I think doubling it may be a stretch but I am hoping for double figure income, that was my original goal

Super interesting read there, and all exemplary documented. Thank you for sharing it!

I was wondering if you have ever made any 'crosschecks' regarding roughly what percentage of data from Tunesat finds its way into the PRO statement, and what percentage from the PRO statement was never picked up by Tunesat?

Big congrats on your success!

Hey Anders

Thanks for checking out my thread, yes I have tried to keep a crosscheck of things but it's not that simple. I would say that 90%+ of stuff that appears on my PRO statement is something I was previously aware of because of Tunesat.

However it doesn't cover all terriotories, so for example a couple of statements back I had a large chunk of change for something in Japan that I knew nothing about, and a similar thing happened for a track that was on BBC radio in Ireland so I was not aware as Tunesat only picks up TV.

Then there is also the time lag, so the gap between me seeing a Tunesat detection in Germany for example and the receiving the royalties in the UK can be up to 2yrs due the way GEMA only pay them once per year.

There are also things that air that are "Non-PRO"..i.e. it's been on TV but doesn't necessarily mean you get anything for it. Things like Promos ( Ads for other TV shows on the network ) can often be unpaid for example esepecially on cable channels.

Thank you for the insights Mark!

Yes, Tunesat is a very impressive service, but I noticed it doesn't pick up much from the Balkan and Eastern Europe regions either.

Interesting, I had no idea about that. I have multiple spots on my Tunesat now where they use my track while announcing upcoming shows on a national channel in Germany. Maybe I shouldn’t be expecting much from that.

Looking forward to reading your 2024 report, it should be through the roof!

I don't know whether they pay for them all in Germany or not, all I know is in the US if they are on cable channels then you have to have the complete good fortune to have it air the day they are making their "survey " which is is like trying to shoot an arrow into a bullseye from 100 yards away whilst blindfolded and the target is moving. I understand on the main US Networks they do pay for them all regardless as it's a census rather than a survey.

I've had some promos in France this year so I guess I will find out next year sometime if those pay.

I have had two promos in the US that showed in tunesat both on similar chanmels and one paid out (pretty well) and other nothing (which was also the longer placement and aired about 4 times more)
So lost out on the one that would likely paid more.
