I’ve Never Been So Glad (to Be So Wrong) ©2024 Robert George
All the mirror showed was darkness
Since they handed her that folded flag
Enemy attack, somewhere in Iraq
They swore that he wouldn’t be back
I often heard her cryin’ on her back porch
Then one Spring day
He was there at their door
She said, “I once thought
That all was lost
And I should just move on
There was no light within,
Now I’ve never been
I’ve never been so glad to be so wrong
Somehow this world’s dark confusion
Robbed me of my reason to believe
Though each verse I’d read, planted one more seed
Till my soul was fin’lly freed
It took ages for the fog to clear
Then one Spring day
He was back in my heart
I said, “I once thought
That all was lost
All my faith was gone
There was no light within,
Now I’ve never been
I’ve never been so glad to be so wrong
He was there all along
And I’ve never been so glad to be so wrong…
I've Never Been So Glad (to Be So Wrong)
