Heroes of my Youth Robert George ©2024
I useta listen to his albums
Thinking he was king
I can’t believe how dumb I was
That guy can’t even sing
All those records on my shelf
All those posters on my wall
I was blinded by ev’ry superstar
Just to find how lame they really are
Cos here’s the bitter truth,
The heroes of my youth
Weren’t heroes at all
I walked their walk and rocked their rock
Back when I was seventeen
But all their glamor and their glory
Was built by magazines
All those records on my shelf
All those posters on my wall
I was blinded by ev’ry superstar
Just to find how lame they really are
Cos here’s the honest truth,
The heroes of my youth
Weren’t heroes at all
Weren’t heroes at all
They say, “Imagine no possessions”
While grubbing ev’ry dollar
Ev’ry day that goes by,
I look up in the sky
And a carpenter stands taller
All those records on my shelf
All those posters on my wall
I was blinded by ev’ry superstar
Just to find how lame they really are
Cos here’s the bitter truth,
The heroes of my youth, the heroes of my youth
Weren’t heroes at all
No, they aren’t heroes at all
The carpenter stands taller…
Heroes of my Youth
