Anyone else feeling ANXIETY about the upcoming Road Rally?

Post by douglasricketts » Tue Oct 15, 2024 3:49 pm

I used to work in radio & do stand-up and am used to engaging with all kinds folks at live events. But I am DREADING the Road Rally! This will be my first and I'm experiencing severe imposter syndrome. Not trying to use this as free therapy, just wondering if anyone else is feeling the same way. I'll be the nervous & shy looking bald guy!

Hey Doug
This has been talked about a lot on Taxi TV. All I can tell you is there isn't a friendlier place out there than the road rally. So many like minded people, welcoming, sharing, etc. From the moment you get on the registration line, you'll find yourself chatting with others. You'll sit next to people in the ballroom and in classes. Hang around the lobby and bar area in the evening and you'll see that people are eager to meet others.

Hope to meet you there! 8-) Feel free to look for me and say hi! I'm usually in the lobby or bar area in the evenings. See the thread: so-are-you-coming-to-the-2024-taxi-rally-t152234.html
It mentions wearing a dot on your page so people know you are from the forum or Taxi TV. I'll have one on my badge. PM me if you want to chat more about it!

Best,
Casey

I have Asperger's syndrome so crowds, noise, being away from my place, not sleeping well...e.t.c ... but I pushed myself to go last year, not going to lie it was hard and took me a while to recover when I arrived home. I don't usually have an alcoholic beverage before 6:00 pm so it was even harder at those times since I don't do and never have done any other kind drugs in my life, I don't even take Aspirin or Tylenol  In the evening I felt more at ease after a couple of beers and have an easier time socializing and turn my mumbling to actual words.

The toughest for me was taking the elevator when it was packed and of course last year the elevator was broken for a full day, the only panic attack I had was at the luncheon, I couldn't breath but highly recommend it especially if you are just starting out and are not signed with a library and have questions. Oh and the food was really good too!!

All in all I survived and super happy I went so I hope this encourages others who are having doubts attending the rally. GO!!!!Amazing group of people and the hugs are free!

My challenge next time is to attend a few of the driver's Ed classes.

That's all for now. :)

I feel ya on packed elevators! I'll take the stairs, I don't care how many flights it is or how far away. I lived in a town where a guy died because he was on a packed elevator and the doors opened, allowing him to fall out and get squeezed between the opening. YIKES.

I feel embarrassed for posting this, thanks to all the nice folk who have replied.
