Biz cards and stuff

Post by Casey H » Tue Nov 12, 2024 9:34 am

Hey all
I had a great time at the rally, as always. :D 8-) Every year, I do my best to go through every business card, flash drive, or CD, and listen to at least 1-2 of the tracks people have. I'm always looking for collaborators, I sometimes refer people to contacts I know that would be good for them, give advice if I have some, etc.

And every year, I want to smack (not literally!) some people for their WTF approach. I have a flash drive with no contact info on it and most of the tracks don't play anyway... Lots of business cards with a QR code for their latest release, but no email address to get in touch with them... Cards with no person's name on them! ... and so on.

QR codes are great but please, guys and gals, ALSO PUT YOUR NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS ON THE BUSINESS CARD!!

Oh, and one person who I asked to send me a link, not an mp3, to a song, emailed me a 15 MB wav file. Well, it wasn't an mp3, LOL!

I'm not a library owner, certainly not a major A&R exec or even close, but I've already referred some folks to library owner friends of mine (with the library owner's permission), because I heard tracks that I thought would be good for Film/TV.

Best,
:D Casey

Now I got a person's name and phone number, along with a song title on the back of my business card. Writing on the back of my card is fine but... No way to find that song! No link, no website, nothing. I remember I really loved the song and wanted to hear it again. Do I text the person and chase them down?

I'm not a library owner, certainly not a major A&R exec or even close, but I've already referred some folks to library owner friends of mine (with the library owner's permission), because I heard tracks that I thought would be good for Film/TV.

Next year, there's gonna have to be another Taxi TV about business cards and etiquette, but unfortunately, not enough people watch before attending the rally.

:-) Casey

I have to say, reading this gave me a moment of panic, like "did I give Casey a shite business card?!?"
Thankfully I think mine is good...But also, I think it's pretty incredible that you take the time to go through them all and listen. I plan to do something similar with mine, but I feel VERY confident I didn't get nearly as many as you.

At any rate, it was great to meet you! And everyone else I met! Even if you didn't have a business card! :D

Great meeting you too, Geoff, even if only for a minute!

Your card was fine. I checked out your music and it was way too good for me to offer any advice. 8-) I love the simple way you website is organized, making it easy to find cues of different genres. A great example! I assume you are already successful at getting your tracks into good libraries.

Best Regards,
:-) Casey

Well jeez, I certainly wasn't fishing for a compliment with my comment, but I'll take it, thanks very much!

Appreciate all you do for the Taxi community, on this forum and otherwise!
