Big announcement?
For a while on TAXI TV Michael had been teasing about a possible "big announcement" in the Ballroom at the Road Rally, about a new TAXI program/service (?). Sadly I had to cancel this year and didn't get to attend. I was thinking if there was such an announcement that something about it would be posted here, but I've not found anything.
So, was there such an announcement (can someone point me in the right direction?) or is it still under wraps? Thank you!

Re: Big announcement?
The announcement is quite big, and was made at the opening of the Rally. I'll probably get a few details wrong so others can chime in, but the gist is this:
They're starting something called Taxi Garage which will basically be a repository for tracks that maybe got returned because they didn't exactly fit the brief they were submitted to, but are still excellent. I'm unclear as to whether we'd submit them for the Garage, or whether the screener would recommend them.
But at any rate, it's going to be a big clearinghouse of tracks, where library owners can search for things they need. It seems like a win/win because we have another chance to have our music heard/signed/placed and it's a resource for libraries to quickly find tracks they might need.
I'll let others correct or expand on any of that.

Re: Big announcement?
Thank you Geoff.
I am curious as to additional details, perhaps some of which are still being ironed out by Michael & company? Guess I'll just keep sniffing about .
Thank you again,
Kwall

I'm sure when they're ready to roll it out they'll do a big thing about it and explain exactly how it'll work.

I missed the rally, but I do remember Michael mentioning this idea on Taxi TV over the last year (years?). It sounds interesting.

I'm sure they are still working out lots of details and it will be some time before the roll-out.
BTW, will the garage do any song repairs while the song is there? TOTALLY JOKING!!

Chiming in from a lurker in The Peanut Gallery -
"Me too..." I'm looking forward to the specifics, categories, and types of material that will be 'stored in the TAXI Garage' -
to be available for getting to the clients, libraries, music supes who mite be singing "still haven't found what I'm looking for...".
Gives me a glimmer of hope.

Re: Big announcement?
I don't have time today to get into ALL of the details, but to be clear, the ONLY way to make it into the Garage will be to SUBMIT to a Garage listing We will not be forwarding music to the Garage from regular listings. If we did that, people would submit TONS of ill-fitting submissions expecting they'd be shunted to the garage.
We will run listings for the Garage. They will not ask for a genre, nor will they ask for music that responds to a particular need. The screeners' mandate will simply be, "Does this song or instrumental sound like something that's good to go AS IT IS, and if so, does the screener think music libraries would be interested in adding it to their catalog?" If you get feedback from a screener that it's close but needs some fixing, you will be able to re-submit it again if you fix the problem. There will be another sub fee for that because we'll have to go through the entire screening on it when it's re-submitted.
You can ALSO (and SHOULD) submit that music for regular listings while it's IN the Garage, but if it gets signed, you will need to let us know so we can take it OUT of the Garage. We don't want clients trying to sign something that has already been signed.
The Garage is being created to solve the problem of, "We think this is very good, but it's NOT what the listing asked for," the number one reason material doesn't get forwarded.
That said, if you've got something that fits a listings requirements, you should still pitch it to that listing for what I believe is a higher probability because it's TARGETED.
There will be more info coming in the weeks/months ahead, so please try to not speculate or create any inaccurate info that gets spread around. Submission fees will likely be the same, and it's likely that there won't be an additional cost to "join" the Garage. Just submission fees. That said, things could change as we develop this further, but we're trying to NOT do that.
We've already run the idea by many of our most active clients, and they really liked the idea, so there's THAT
best,
ML
