Psalm of the Soul ©2025 Robert George
Hope and faith when rooted are as mobile as motion
They excel a midnight moon at charming the ocean
Some die weak
Some die well
Some die too quick to tell
When a pit of fortune swallows them whole
But blessed is he
Who sings to Thee
With a psalm
A psalm of the soul
Absent your counsel, Lord, I’m a riderless horse
A leaky ship of mice without a course
Some die weak
Some die well
Some die too quick to tell
When a pit of fortune swallows them whole
So, praise the Lord
With one accord
And a psalm
A psalm of the soul
A psalm of the soul
In a candlelit cabin
The sage will put his pen to paper
He drinks, he thinks
His rhyme is sublime
And age turns vital men to vapor
So, in the hour I lose power and I’m gathered to my fathers
Save me from the fates of fools and their unbelieving authors
Some die weak
Some die well
Some die too quick to tell
When a pit of fortune swallows them whole
But I love Thee
exceedingly
With a psalm
A psalm of the soul
Yes, I love thee
Exceedingly
With a hymn of the heart
And a psalm of the soul
A psalm of the soul…
Psalm of the Soul
