0 for 4 on S250123SS listing :(

Post by Casey H » Mon Feb 03, 2025 5:43 pm

I went 0 for 4 on this singer-songwriter listing. :( Not a bitch and whine post. Just wanted to get your thoughts on if any of these fit the listing. It could be they are very good singer-songwriter songs (they are in multiple selective libraries), but not a fit for this listing. I guess I was taken back because the listing said "lots of" and "wide range". Whatcha think?

The songs, in no particular order:
https://s.disco.ac/sdlyfpcoidnp

The listing:
Lots of MODERN SINGER/SONGWRITER SONGS (in a wide range of styles) with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a Major European Media Company for a variety of Non-Exclusive opportunities!

This Company is looking for a wide range of Songs in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following examples:

"By The Coast" by I'll Get You Home https://youtu.be/czwffqPiorQ?si=dAoarMoLqkiwn6kR

"Hold On to You" by Tyler Brown Williams https://youtu.be/XqrmQ3FNq60?si=a2Cxp4ODbUOG3uy_

"Lovely Day" by Jackson Wooten https://youtu.be/4Zz4AzGOmzE?si=NkkC0g1eBNNjzxqx

"I'd Like To Bring You" by Victoria Bigelow https://youtu.be/V_gkZGCyWnE?si=dLCe0kAPlsWCsPT7

Please submit a wide range of modern Singer/Songwriter Songs with an emotionally captivating sound that could be heard on a playlist with the references! Your submissions should have unforgettable melodies, great musicianship, meaningful choruses, modern production, and honest, well-written lyrics. Instrumentation that's in the general stylistic ballpark of the references will work best for this opportunity, such as acoustic guitar, piano, strings, percussion, etc. Your arrangements can range from stripped-down productions to more filled-out ideas. We highly recommend using real instrumentation, but if you choose to use any virtual sounds or instruments, please be sure they are extremely high-quality and virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. Compelling, well-performed vocals are key for this listing!

Lyrics that don’t have references to specific names, dates, times, brands, places, and profanity could make your Songs more useable for sync placements. Please do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Do NOT submit any material with unauthorized samples of any other artists’ music, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Quoting the Company: “Only artists/writers affiliated with ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SACEM, IMRO, APRA AMCOS, SOCAN, including all Scandinavian and Latin American PROs, are eligible to submit their music for this opportunity.”

AI ALERT: This company does not accept or sign music that has been lyrically or melodically composed using generative AI, nor does it accept backing tracks, full instrumental tracks, or vocal performances created with AI.

This company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE Deal, so you will keep 100% of all Composition and Master Rights. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit for this opportunity. Please submit as many Songs as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Thursday, January 23rd, 2024. TAXI # S250123SS

Curious as to why the rejection.
I thought they all fit nicely on the same playlist as the references.

So glad these have homes in some great libraries....

"Always be you and me" is amazing and I think it fits the listing really well so I would say forward on this one. Great production.

"I think about you way too much" nice song but I think the mix is a bit too dry.

Over all they are all good.

That's all from me.

Casey, Screener 374 is a tough one to impress.
I believe if it had been a different screener, at least two of the songs, if not all, would have been forwarded.
Great songs, by the way!

Cheers,

Andre

The vocal production could be fine tuned for this specific pitch.
I hear it, first one I checked out was "Another Blue Day." The vocal performances on it are strong and unique. They STAND OUT and would take away from a scene involving dialogue. You're just too damn good, Casey!

I've had the opposite experience and found 374 to be one of the best, very fair, and I get a great deal of my forwards from him (or her). Usually, if 374 returns one of my submissions, I feel I must have been off the mark for the listing.

I'll have to head on over to the forwards blog and listen to what did make the cut. Write, Submit, Forget, Repeat. And at my age, the "Forget" part is easier than ever.

Thanks!
:D Casey

I don't know whether to feel encouraged or discourage here lol. If "Another Blue Day" isn't getting a forward, what hope do the rest of us have? This song has nailed that indie vibe and would sit so nicely in television or film. One comment, however: "A thought would be more vocal contrast in this production. Verses, for instance, could be singular/solo to help convey a little more emotional pull on the top line." -- you could try removing the double-tracked voices on the verses so that the chorus pops a bit more. I wouldn't edit beyond that, this song is perfect for sync.

"Always Be You and Me" is a bonafide winner for sure....With that said, I tend to avoid these types of briefs..... It is too difficult to tell what they are looking for!!

And ditto on screener #374...... He or She may be a tough nut to crack, but the feedback that I receive has always been fairly detailed and helpful
