Why did I submit that?

Post by RickElliott » Thu Feb 27, 2025 2:35 pm

Lol sometimes I'll get a return from a cue I even FORGOT I submitted. I'll listen to it to remind myself what it was. Then, I'll note how horrible it was. I can see in my mind the screeners shaking their heads when they hear one such like those. "Omg, here's Rick Elliott again. Is he ever going to stop trying?" The answer is: NO! I'm going to keep doing this until I get it right!

I have had quite a few of those, Rick! Makes me wanna smack myself across the forehead and say, "What were you THINKING?!"

One thing I've been doing is forcing myself to listen to the examples provided for each lead about every two hours or so during my production time. In a few cases, it made me realize I was quite off-track so I shelved a cut or finished it then saved it for another time.

That's a really great idea because part of my process is putting together these cues like a puzzle. The next piece depends on the current piece. I like what some people do also. Even though we think everything is done and complete, wait until the NEXT day to listen to it again before we submit. That's solid advice I have replaced my cue more than a few times after already submitting.

I find the stories of rejection much more interesting than the successes. I'm pretty sure it's only a matter of time before Taxi just blocks me lol.

As a small tip to prevent that from happening, I really recommend you to post your music for review on the Peer to Peer forum before submitting. Lots of talented composers on there who will point out what needs fixing -- I even get replies from the most successful/highest-earning TAXI members on there sometimes. I do that for every submission and my effectiveness as a writer and brief-follower went up very fast in a short period of time.

My logic behind it is if I'm going to spent $5 to submit the track, I absolutely want it picked clean apart so it stands the highest chance of getting forwarded/placed!

Hope this helps,

Tommy
