2/2 for Happy/Fun!

Post by melodist » Mon Feb 16, 2009 7:09 pm

I just got my first taste of the sweet, sweet nectar that is a Taxi forward today. 2/2, woot! "Happy Beginnings" (which was re-worked to fix some intonation issues from a previous return) and "The Hoedown" made it for happy/fun.http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... =damiansol

Way to go! Let's hope they lead to deals. Here's a tip -- make sure you have a bunch more tracks ready so that if the listing party gets in touch with you and says, "We want to license Hoe Down, and while we're at it, do you have anything else you'd like us to hear?" you can say, "YEAH!" and ship'em off. That's been my experience so far; my first deal was for one TAXI-forwarded song, plus one song TAXI has never heard of -- because the music lib in question said, "Send us anything else you'd like us to consider."It's more cost-effective for them, if you think about it... and way cooler for you!

Thanks for the nice comments everyone! The love and support on these boards is a breath of fresh air. I just heard from my co-writer for "Hoedown" and he was having a crappy day until he heard about this.@ibanez -- Glad to hear props on the real violin. I know that Dave Trotter (Harpo) was very interested in hearing my demo at the Convention once I told him I was a violinist, but I don't think the demo was quite "there" yet. There's always next year!@CK -- That is fantastic advice and not something I'd considered. Thanks for that. I will be writing and recording as much as possible!

Wow Damian, I love that Happy Begginnings! It sounds like a breath of fresh air. I was reading your bio also. Did you get tired of playing Wieniawski too?

Who's playin' steel on hoedown? Great stuff there. Intonating a violin and steel guitar simultaneously is no small feat! Your recordings have a very fresh/honest feeling to them. Best of luck with these songs.Cheers,

Hey Damian, congrats on the forwards! I like both of these tunes, especially Happy Beginnings for your choice of unusual instrumentation.Keep 'em coming!Steve

Wow, thanks for all the new nice comments, all. I have been sick for the last several days, so it's great to open this thread back up and see such nice things.@teleblaster -- The steel player is my friend and co-writer on this tune, Noah Nelson. He's an award-winning songwriter from Sacramento, and a fine steel player to boot. I'm slowly coercing him into the Taxi fold.@brindabella -- Yes! I did play Wieniowski's 1st violin concerto for a while, although not nearly as long as Paganini. My teacher, who actually loved Mozart above all, seemed to be obsessed with me playing only Italian composers.
