This Place For Me?
Well ive only recently came across this site..From what ive gathered its mainly good for placing for TV shows movies ect...Iam a Hip-Hop producer/song writer over in the UK..I was wondering would this place benifit me at all?I dont really write jingle style music, more hip-hop/pop structured songs..Heres a mix of some of the tracks ive wrote/produced and recorded with artists..http://www.zshare.net/audio/9615931b7f5369/Also my myspace www.myspace.com/sermstyle has over 150+ instrumentals on...Would this place benefit me at all in my area of music?Iam also a featured producer on PMPworldwide..which offers track dumps to major label projects..any info would be great thanks!!

Re: This Place For Me?
Taxi will present all types of opportunities not just TV/Film although these days those are the most common listings. Compared to other styles perhaps hip-hop is not as well represented on the listings but we have seen a couple of success stories in that style (see that area of the forum).I do want to mention something about this post and another recent one: people are mistakenly equating Film/TV/Library music with "jingle". That could not be farthest from the truth and shows a deep misunderstanding of the library industry and how music is placed in film/TV. To anyone discounting library opportunities because they don't write "jingles" I would suggest educating themselves about that section of the industry. That knowledge will serve them well not only in deciding whether Taxi is the proper vehicle (sorry couldn't resist ) for advancing their careers but also in making good decisions once the offers and deals start coming in. Start with Matt Hirt's videos on YouTube and go from there.HTHAntonio

sermstyle,I'd have to agree with Antonio. You'd be surprised at just how many opportunities are available for your style of music. And there are members here who specialize in that kind of music, and are getting forwarded for deals, as well as actually signing deals for their music to be placed in some type of production or another. So to answer your question, would it benefit you? I would think so. At the least, you would have one more outlet for your music to be heard, and possibly be placed in a project of some sort. Hope that helps.ibanez468

Listen to the various Hip-Hop tracks used on MTV and similar networks for their shows and reality shows. No "jingle" music there... it's all solid tracks, tracks that could easily be found at a major record label (and some are). The bar for quality (in every respect) is VERY high. A track sent to Taxi that sounds like a jingle would get kicked back quick.First thing, the Taxi listings are all real, these are all opportunities that are available with what I call "cream-of-the-crop" labels, music libraries, etc. They all use Taxi to find good music for their projects. Now, once your music makes it past the Taxi screeners and gets forwarded to the listing company, the decision is that of the listing company. If I introduce you to three nice girls and all three decline your marriage proposal... that's not my fault. Same with Taxi. The provide the link that brings you together with people you might not normally have access to. That's one of the most common misconceptions about Taxi... that if you don't get a deal in a certain amount of time (or ever) that it's somehow Taxi's fault. Of course, that's silly. Some personalties don't seem to get along with the idea of a "Taxi screener" seemingly standing between them and fame and fortune. If you can get past "Forward = Screeners are great... Return = Screeners are morons" you've got most of the problem taken care of already. I don't do Hip Hop (yet... I might surprise a few people at some point in the near future) but I use Taxi as one of many things that I do to get my music (orchestral/electronica/ethnic) in front of decision makers. I've had good success through Taxi... a few of the listing companies I've been forwarded on wound up offering me a deal but it didn't happen overnight. I've also had good success on my own and that didn't happen overnight either. Some people (like Stick here on the forum and a few others I think) get a deal on their first submission. We don't like people like that even though we pretend that we do. HTH,DavePS - Giterrero here on the forum has had a slew of deals through Taxi and as unlikely as it might seem that a guy based in Switzerland would be writing great Hip Hop, he does and I know he's had good success with that, music on MTV and such.
