So I just joined..a couple questions ?
first of all..I joined mainly to shop some of my studio recorded tracks for film/Tv...but I have a ton of material that i'm now thinking I could shop as vocal/guitar demos as well ?my genre is kind of a mix of rock/folk/moody/melancholy & sometimes a bit of hard rock..http://www.soundclick.com/lightboxtherapy there's some of the material there - but most of it lies untouched on copyright tapes/disc's.. I really just want to make the most out of this membership {joined for 2 years} and don't want to miss any opportunities..I was always from the school of thought that most rock bands write their own stuff..but have heard otherwise on occasion..is it worth it for me to bang out a bunch of guitar/vocal demos..or is it a waste of time in my genre ?also if there's other opportunities i'm not aware of..please enlighten me thanks..johnwww.myspace.com/liteboxtherapy

I am new as well, but what seems to be common, is tojust watch the listings for things that fit, and for bids you can produce for, the dead lines usually give you a month or so for non dispatch work from what I have seen.
in the time of trumpets and guitars, there was an oboe

Dear John,Welcome to TAXI! There's a lot of opportunities that will come up-- be sure to put the Road Rally on your "to do" list as well (usually the 1st or 2nd week of November). Not to be missed!I don't have much experience with the singer/songwriter listings, though I listened to some of your stuff, and I can easily hear your tracks being used for commercial TV/film placements. The artist pitches, on the other hand, are extremely high bar, and if you've been reading the boards much here you can learn what experience people have for these kinds of submissions (and you can also find some notes from the Rally on making these kinds of pitches and suggestions therein).Good luck to you with all your material! Keep us posted with your placements! Raags

Raagsthanks..Raags...good tip Milfus..no sense in recording a ton of demos that don't pertain to current listings...if something fits a listing there's plenty of lead time to bang something out..besides I hate recording my demos MYSELF....frustrates the hell out of me trying to be player/engineer/singer/producer/etc..everytime you get things set..the phone rings or you can't reach the damn record button cause you're getting choked by the headphone cord UGHH

Re: So I just joined..a couple questions ?
i found this book very helpful. im just starting too. as i understand it there seems to be a preference toward fleshed out demos that expand your own ideas for pitching yourself. for songs you pitch to other artists, they want to hear the groove (so drums, bass etc) but leave room for some creative expression on the part of the artist/producer/band/whomever. check out john braheny's book. no, unfortunately he's not paying me i just got a lot of basic business knowledge out of here. i wish i had read it ten years ago. he addresses this topic specifically as well as a lot of others.http://www.johnbraheny.com/book/index.html
