Best compliment ever

The best compliment ever was having an audience member come up to me after a show and literally WEEP in my arms over one of my tunes, telling me how it got to them and how much it meant to them to hear their life put into words and music.I'll never forget that moment as long as I live. And it's happened several times since, and over more than one song. Proof, to me, that I am truly blessed.Ted

To add a late comment to this thread.I think the greatest compliment anyone can give you is to actually fork out their hard earned cash for your music, be it a concert ticket or a CD sale. Music execs get everything free so they can be very liberal with their compliments but a teenage kid forking out $10 of their allowance for your music is a pretty big thumbs up in my book.BTW I'm not sure how many units I shifted when I was releasing stuff (2-3 thousand perhaps, 500 limited vinyl runs, a couple of 1000 CD runs on indie lables) and I didn't see a penny from the sales....the label pocketed all those nice compliments I can probably find my stuff selling for 99p in charity shops in London somewhere.

Well done Nomi, you are absolutely right on about getting recognition. I got a really nice compliment from Pete Townshend of The Who once. I wrote a song about the experience reading his online novella, a pal had put the song into a video and sent it to him. He said it was "Gorgious".. There is a video of this exchange on YouTube, and the song is played for him also.http://youtube.com/watch?v=WMpLejeHj6IThat was probably the best moment of my life right there because he was the one who inspired me to pick up a guitar when I was 8 years old.

Well, even though TAXI has never forwarded this particular tune, an a capella tune of mine --by some miraculous series of falling dominoes back in 1997-- made it from me to a friend of mine to HIS friend, Broadway legend Jerry Herman, who asked if he could send it to his publisher, who about a week later asked if he could send it to his boss. About five days later, I got a phone call at 7 am PST from the man (B*** P********) who runs the publishing offices in NYC for Paul McCartney, telling me how much "Mr. McCartney" loved my song and would be eager to hear more of my music. I made him tell me this again THREE times before I realized this was NOT a friend of mine pulling a prank on me and this was for real. Then, I was a weeping, babbling moron for the rest of the phone call. I will go to my grave a happy man, even if I never make a dime from my music, knowing that one of the BEATLES not only heard a song of mine, but also liked it well enough to bother to call me --a nobody-- at home to tell me so.Ted

After i recorded my first song, which wasn't really that good, the producer was amazed that i only been at it for a lil less than a year, and told me that "I'm very talented lyricist, and that if i keep it up i'm gonna go far", since i've recorded more albums and made enough money to make a decent living
