Playing Jazz

Playing jazz drums for more years than I care to remember, I also don't remember why I started playing jazz. I know I gravitated to the sound, that's about it. But, this I know, in my opinion, you really don't learn to play jazz drums. Jazz is a feeling. I never took a lesson in jazz drumming, it just happened! I don't agree either, that you learn by practicing a drum solo by, let's say "Max Roach or Philly Jo Jones!" Grab a tape or CD plug it in, listen and go with your feelings. The only basic you need to know is the lamb duck on your ride. You don't learn Jazz, you feel it!
