Who is using our music??!

Yesterday, I received a statement from another music licensing company (we apparently just received our first paid music placements and usages with them-- unbelievable!), and they had several columns with "customer names" and all-- many of which were blank. Two of them said "screened services Big Brother", so I'm wondering-- was this actually the tv show? How do we find out who actually used our music? This company does not give us any more information with their statements, so I was wondering-- will our PRO (ASCAP) show who used our music in their statements? Ooooo, I want to know! I realize there may be some that I never know about, but I'd like to know about the bigger ones listed on these statements (tv shows, etc.) so I can add them to our music production website promotions page.Wow, I'm already loving 2009!

Hey Raags!I personally have not received a PRO statement, but I've seen somebody elses and all of the placements had the show, length of time played, type of cue, country it was aired in, and I think even the network(s) it was on. These were BMI statements, but I would imagine that ASCAP does the same.So yeah, you should know who used it!Big congrats on the placement!!-Steve

Non-broadcast uses will obviously not show up.There's nothing wrong with sending the company a polite email and asking some questions about the statement...no guarantee they will answer them but it doesn't hurt to try. You'd probably improve your chances of getting a reply if youy opened your email by thanking them profusely for the excellent job they are doing representing your music, or something to that effect... Thank you, Steve and matto! That was just what I was wondering, and I'm happy to know that I will eventually find out (if it's broadcast, which is what I was wanting to know). So we'll see. And I might just send them a sweet note in the meantime too... Honestly, I was so tickled to find not one, but FIVE songs on my little earnings statement! It was my first one with any earnings posted, as the past four years were just big fat zero's. Boy, this one sure turned on all the lights!Raags

Congrats to you Raags!I don't have to worry about that problem, but I do get checks from digital downloads. The only info is basically digital downloads and a dollar amount, I have no idea which song(s) anyone is buying . . . heck for all I know the checks are supposed to be for someone else . . . maybe even you!

Gosh, Jeff & Allen, thanks. I'm not posting the celebration just yet (hence, this was posted in "Biz Talk"), as I've only seen the numbers on paper. When I see them in our bank account, then we'll be celebrating for sure! Thanks, Bill! Yeah, we get digital checks too, and those are really nice! Because most of it is from CDBaby, we can see which company sold it, and which track was purchased, but that's about it. But we don't care. Gotta love those passive streams of revenue!

I think I got a statement from the same company. Was VERY pleased, myself, but a little disappointed with lack of info on who used what.
