I've never seen a contract where the publisher's share of performance royalties was more than 50%.As far as sync fees or buyout fees, any split is perfectly legal, as others have said.Whether it's a good deal depends on how much revenue the company actually generates from its tracks. 30% of the sync or buyout fees collected by a serious music library will add up to a lot more money than 50% of those collected by one of those "online music clearing houses"...
