Pro Tools Always Crashing
Anyone else having problems? It was so good for so long, now I've upgraded to PT 2018 and it constantly crashes every day.
I'm using a pretty powerful gaming PC with 16 GB of ram, and the session I'm trying to finish is just a small cue with a couple of instruments open,
so I'm guessing it's a bug with the new Pro Tools version 2018.12

Reeeeeaally frustrating!

Customer Support Enhancements
Cancelling the crash report window will now save a .crash file in a default location. This allows it to be sent to Customer Support at a later time, minimizing workflow disruption. (PT-244799)
macOS: /Users/<username>/Library/Logs/Avid/Crashlog/
Windows: C:/Users/<username>/AppData/Local/Avid/Logs/Crashlogs/

If you don't find anything in the requirements or release notes concerning compatibility, then I'd send the crash logs to customer service,or look at them yourself. It could be that the drivers for your plugins or interface need updating, or os software

Hi Steve,
That is why I am hesitant to upgrade from Protools 12.....
It is a complete reinstall and I know the problems that that can cause...
What version were you using that worked?

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
Hi Tim,
I don't think I ever had an issue with PT 12. I can't remember if 2018.10 had issues, but 2018.12 definitely does.
I moved my session from the C drive (flash drive) to the D drive (hard drive) and I haven't had a problem since.
Here's the response I got from Avid, which I will implement if it starts crashing again:
- Unplug all external drives and audio interface
- Install Asio4all driver
- Reboot
- Refresh Pro Tools
Delete Pro Tools Databases and Preferences
Link: https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/artic ... delete_pro
- Reboot
- Open Ilok License Manager > Update
- Reboot
- Open Pro Tools

So it is not crashing with the sessions on the D drive?

No, I spent about 2 hours working with it today on the D drive and all was fine.
As Windows and Pro Tools run on the C drive, it may just be that saving (auto saving) the session to the C drive on top of that was making it crash (?).
If I get problems again while using the D drive I'll let you know, otherwise it's fixed.

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
They have always recommended putting your sessions on a different drive than your operating system. If you have been running PT with sessions saved to your C drive in the past I'd say you have been pretty lucky not to have any problems.
The only thing that crashes Pro tools 11 for me is using Sansamp on a stereo channel. It maxes out the cpu. Master meter causes a similar problem sometimes.

Re: Pro Tools Always Crashing
So it's crashing again. Almost impossible to get anything done.
I now have PT on the C drive (flash).
Instruments/plugins/libraries on the D drive.
Session on the F drive (external hard drive).
I'm just doing cues with maybe 20 tracks, maybe 10 synths/instruments.
Really frustrating!
