Pulsing cues

Post by superkons » Mon Apr 06, 2020 5:07 pm

EDIT:
I made a playlist on SC for my submission to the listing in question, therefore editing the original post

I have been working on some cues for listing S200413PL (no need to put the description, we all know what it is about, now, do we not? :P )

TIA for your feedback/opinion!

First glass bell felt too present for me - I didn't mind it but it did pull focus and sounded very forward on my headphones. Clock ticks a tad too loud, I agree. I think the sustained bells at the end felt like a sudden and big rise in energy, not sure if that's what you want.

Also I'd personally consider a bit of a LPF on the main synth ostinato or something. Just an idea!

Cheers,
Mike

Yes, the bells are a little too busy IMO but you could LPF the bells so they are there, just not bright and you can keep the piece moving forward. I'd LPF everything a little actually,

Cheers, ilikered, I addressed the comments Mike left, it sounds a bit better, now, I believe.

Also, edited the original post, as I made a new cue, today

Yeah, first one definitely more to what I THINK they want?
The second cue is actually better IMO. It's what I would think they want. If you have time, you should figure out the ending . . .

It may be the late hour, but care to elaborate, please? Do use the cue names, as well, for even more clarity, cheers :)

Find a cure is the newer one right? I like that one better than the first one, BUT, it ends somewhat abruptly to meet the 90s listing request. SO, if you have time, maybe signal that the ending is on it's way coming 8 - 16 bars earlier? An edm riser would probably work. It might still sound too soon because the track calls for a longer version, but I think the screener will get why you did that.
Stop the spread is pulsing, but I don't get a sci-fi mood, its main ostinato is too neutral and not evocative enough. It should either be darker or lighter but right now it's neither and actually feels kind of lumbering rather than sinister. Darker would be my recommendation but the listing did say all moods and tempos. Drop it and try another one, you've got time,

I like the horn/synth swells in 'Stop the Spread'. Sounds like the kind of development in the ref tracks. I really like 'Find a Cure', between the two of them. Regarding previous comments, I think putting swells (like your other track) as you build to the end of 'Find a Cure' could work to nail down the ending.

Oh and I wanted to say, Marco, your stuff is awesome, I've checked it out and I think it's world class. For this I would think more phillip glass, less NIN, that's what I'm trying to do with these because I think that's where Cliff Martinez is coming from. My two cents, for what it's worth,
