QUESTION RE:CLASSIC SOUTHERN BLUES-S210705ST

Post by irthlingz » Sat Jun 26, 2021 11:21 pm

I guess they want original songs that sound similar to the references, as opposed to actual classic southern blues songs? I have a version of one of the references (Stealin'). (https://sharmuse.com/stealin.html) But the fact that they say "well-crafted lyrics" tells me they want originals. But would like to confirm. Thanks!

CLASSIC SOUTHERN BLUES SONGS with Male Vocals are needed for several
(up to) $5,000, Direct-to-Music-Supervisor placements in a range of TV
Shows on Major Networks.

This Music Supervisor is on the hunt for Songs in All Tempos in the
general stylistic ballpark of the following references we got directly
from them:

"Fixin' to Die Blues" by Bukka White
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpO1UV9lRKo

"Stealin' Stealin'" by Memphis Jug Band
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzTcI8PtjrQ

"One Thing For Sure" by Brownie McGhee
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDxJq5k0rxE

You can submit recently recorded Songs in the general production style
of the references; or, if you’ve got any vintage recordings (recorded
back in the day), the Music Supervisor would love to hear those as well!

Please send well-crafted Blues Songs with soulful melodies, memorable
choruses, and great rhythms. Authentic-sounding Southern Blues
instrumentation is key to nailing this request, so if you're planning
on using any virtual instruments, they need to sound like the real
thing and can't be stiff or obviously MIDI-driven. Expressive, well-
performed vocals paired with well-crafted lyrics could help you seal
the deal!

Lyrics that avoid references to specific names, dates, times, brands,
places, and profanity will make your Songs easier to place. Do NOT copy
the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a
guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

The estimated license fee for each placement is up to $5,000, depending
on the ultimate use. These are Direct-to-Music Supervisor placements,
so you’ll keep 100% ownership of your Master and Composition rights,
plus you’ll also get 100% of the sync fee and any applicable
performance royalties. You must own or control your Master and
Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. Please submit as many Songs as
you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and
critiqued by a TAXI screener that was hand-picked by the Music
Supervisor. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT)
on Monday, July 5th, 2021. TAXI # S210705ST

Hi Michael,

The listing doesn't mention the word "Cover" so by default this means that they want an original. They also specifically say Do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape or form.

You will soon find that Taxi listings are really carefully thought out and they are very specific with their wording so you don't need to read between the lines, however you will need to pay close attention to each and every word!

Yes, original songs are being requested. The main focus is "This Music Supervisor is on the hunt for Songs in All Tempos in the
general stylistic ballpark of the following references we got directly from them:" The fact that the supervisor provided references is quite helpful (and not as common as one might thing), so listen to all three and see what they have in common. They are all simple, modest instrumentation, and deliver a specific mood or feeling. I'm submitting two for this listing, and I am struggling with how 'modern' of a mix I should create. To me it's about capturing the vibe more than creating a polished recording. Quality matters of course, but find the commonality between all three references and you should be good to go.
