Quiz: What Guitar/Bass Amp is This?
Hey Gals and Guys,
Listen: I'm not trying to be a smart ass! I'm asking a simple question if y'all can distinguish between different tube amplifiers. That's all!
If you can't, SAY SO! If you can, TAKE A GUESS! No big deal.
If you don't care, tell me to fuck off. Many people on this forum have told me exactly that!
Peace
Ern

Re: Quiz: What Guitar/Bass Amp Is This?
ill have a go.
Here's my deduction
It doesnt sound like a Marshall to me. Its too bright and responds differently to distortion.
It doesn't sound Fender either, too many mids and lacks the right sparkle.
that leaves
C) Line 6/ 15 Watt
F) Soldano SP-77
H) Roland JC-120
I) Gibson Bell/10 Watt
And I don't think it's the Roland, which I know usually sounds bigger.
So Im down to:
C) Line 6/ 15 Watt
F) Soldano SP-77
I) Gibson Bell/10 Watt
And I dont know the Soldano, nor the Gibson. But I doubt it's the line 6, with that bass tone.
To me it sounds like a small amp that is close mic'ed, so I'd go with the Gibson 10w
and now you prolly tell me it's the Plexi (which is well known for it's great bass tone)

Thanks, Kolstad! You're very close. I sure wish I still had my Gibson Bell, which I stupidly sold many years ago!Kolstad wrote: So Im down to:

I'll have to add some more clues: One side of a Peavey 60/60 tube power amp into a 1x15 Eminence cabinet, close-miked with a Shure 57.
That ought to nail it down!
Cheers,
Ern
