Rap family in Texas for xmas 2023

Post by feaker66 » Tue Jan 02, 2024 2:31 pm

I had an annual Christmas song all ready to be sung and produced but the grands talked me out of it. My 16 year old grandson Nate downloaded a ton of stuff from chat GPJ. I made him do everything except add effects.
I was wondering how to avoid the monotony of this track. It is a crude demo now.
My youngest granddaughter Lily adds only a merry christmas at the end. She is a high function sweet autistic child (who has come so far)
The track starts out by a phone call of the Minnesota crew landing in Houston and the back and forth between all.
Anyhow, starting from 24 seconds for just a little while, I was wondering how the track set with you? The singers are as follows:
Nate 16
Jenna 17
Ryan 23 (pilot in training)
Gracie 18 in college
Rachel 20 in college
Leslie 52 court reporter (daughter)
Dana chemical engineer (daughter)
Lilly 8

Nice family fun. :)

Best way to make the song sound less repetitive is to stop repeating the string loop. :) Generally you want to add some sort of change every four or eight measures, for example you could cut the string loop out at 0:31 when Nate starts. Then at 0:46 for the last part of his section, have the string loop fade back in using an EQ automation from low to high. You can also change the intensity of the string loop by dropping the highs in the EQ down to give it a different sound. Maybe get a pluck synth or a different string synth patch and have it take over the original string theme, dropping the original out for a little while. Basically, add and subract some elements to give the track some variety.

Hey Paulie I told my grands that this was a quickie and needed a complete overhaul. The toughest part was trying to get each kid to regain composure after so many belly laughs. I am trying to get Nate interested in making some tracks. He really dug into this and showed me so many ways to import clips. Already by the second day, he was running the show. I have been doing family songs with them for ten years now. There only real responsibility was to make their own lyrics. Definitely the highlight of our time together and a nice break from their phones. It was easy because we didn't have any high expectations.
I sent your response off to him tonight and I know he will be excited about it. Thanks Paulie (that's what my band members call me)
