Hello RMarshall,

It seems you have the names of your pieces juxtaposed. The piano is especially harsh sounding on "Faithful" with kind of a "hammering" "on the beat" execution. Maybe try a different Piano, because I don't believe you will get enough change simply by EQing. "Finding Calm" needs attention at 52-54, 1:06-1:11, and 1:19-1:20 because your melodic line sounds "undecided" for lack of a better word. The atmospheric sound you've chosen in "Finding Calm" seems most appropriate. Your melodic and harmonic ideas generally are most enjoyable and appropriate considering the references. I hope what I've said can be of value to you.

Best!

John

I'd suggest you leave out the wind/wave noises. I could be wrong, but my interpretation of 'atmosphere' is the reverb around the piano rather than atmospheric sounds that could limit the potential use of your track (imagine using it for an indoor scene for example).

Both pieces sound nice, but compared with the ref tracks I also found the piano to be a little on the aggressive side, so perhaps a gentler performance might help. If these are midi instruments you might be able to tweak the velocity curve to get the desired effect. Keep comparing with the ref tracks and get as close as you can.
Graham (UK). Still composing a little faster than decomposing, and 100% HI.

Hi Graham and John

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and give feedback. I've changed the piano sounds and altered velocity as I agreed with the hammering (undesirable), not really what you want in a relaxing piece!

Fingers crossed.

All the best
Rachel
