Review of my Lyrics - JUST LISTEN TO THE RADIO

Post by moorishblue26 » Sun Jun 27, 2021 6:00 am

Dear All,

Please review my lyrics.........

JUST LISTEN TO THE RADIO
Just listen to the radio someday
and there will be some melodies for you
and if it feels like it's my song
will you pause for a moment will you?

I'll never mention your name ever
yet I'm sure you will feel a little familiar
just like me who was always around you
but could not talk to you ever

if it feels good
hum it whenever you can
am sure you'll smile
at least for a while
and that's what I care about

Just listen to the radio someday
and there will be some melodies for you
and if it feels like it's my song
will you pause for a moment will you?

So basically the guy in the song is asking for something that is very very unlikely to ever happen. He never spoke to her and now he's hoping she will be listening to the radio at just the right time etc. Now the impossibility is not a bad thing; it lends a touch of humor and pathos to the situation. But I would exaggerate the emotion so that we feel the desperation underlying it. "Please please please listen to the radio! Listen in the daytime! Listen in the nighttime too! Turn it up loud so you never miss a thing!"

And/or I might add a line about "I know you're always listening to the radio ..." to add a touch of plausibility to it.

Hi Moorish
These really aren't "there" for a song. Writing song lyrics is a craft to itself, not the same as writing a few lines of poetry or something partial.

Check out this link to lots of books on songwriting... https://www.taxi.com/music-business-books/
Scroll down, you'll see ones about lyric writing by folks like Pat Pattison, Sheila Davis, etc.

Good luck!
:D Casey
