Revisiting Older Material

Post by Patrick » Fri Sep 14, 2018 10:46 am

I think revisiting one's older material is a bit like getting back with your ex girlfriend. You quickly realize why you parted ways in the first place!

But at least an old song won't scold you for hanging out too much with the guys, consuming too much beer, or drinking out of the milk carton...so I suppose there is a bit of a difference after all.
Bad art can make you laugh
Good art can make you think
Great art can destroy you

- Me

(Did he just quote himself?? Yes! Yes I did!)

I think it depends on the core of creative operation, or the history, the composer uses, or has melded into his/her process. "Good art rides the train." quoting myself and probably not making sense:) such as, I don't want to go back to the way the sound was but I might revisit the melodies, harmonies, rhythms and pick up some things I could use ;)
