He was one of the last great "thematic" composers and one of our favorites. What a talent. We will miss him greatly.

Mount Shinmoe, the volcano in Kyushu, Japan which was used in the Bond movie "You Only Live Twice" has erupted again.

Coincidence? or a grand farewell that even Hollywood couldn't equal!

The absolutely beautiful theme from that film:

And a theme that is so beautiful, it's almost painful to listen to.
Tugs at my heart strings every time I hear it, even more now!
Sit back, close your eyes and enjoy!

God Bless You John.

I fell in love with his work using old recordings of slave tapes from Library of Congress, tucked away in a dusty corner before he dragged them out and put them together with some awesome players in The General's Daughter. I still have several of those pieces on my itouch. Jes can't believe he's gone. Betta days fo him, beautiful music fo us.

I was very fortunate to do an internship with him while he was scoring 'Dances with wolves'.
Truly inspiring and unforgettable. Best month of my life!

He will be missed indeed, but his music lives on forever.

Here's a BBC documentary about him of a few years ago:
