Re: Small-Diaphragm Condenser mic Advice?
Pedro,
I think you would be very happy with the AT pack. I have owned the 4041 and it is a wonderful Ac mic. Like I said in earlier post the AT4033 has been a staple in my studio and all my friends here in Nash for years. I'm sure the one in the pack is every bit as good.
Good luck.Bruce

Thanks Bruce!
The 4033 seem to be outstanding but a little to expensive for me ATM. Even that pack is a lot more than what I would like to spend. On the other hand after reading the description of my mic from APEX I am convinced I need a vocal mic as well. Tough decisions. If only I'd get a deal soon it would make my decision easier Chicken and the egg situation isn't it?

Re: Small-Diaphragm Condenser mic Advice?
Hello Pedro,
I own and use Neumann KM184s, Shure SM81s, AKG C451 with the CK1 capsules. I would highly reccomend the KM184 for acoustic guitar, and the C451 / CK1 for overheads / cymbals... those are my go to mics for this . The SM81 does both very well also, but is not my go to mic.... Either of these would be a great long term investment, but out of your budget....
You should be able to get a used SM81 on Ebay for around $200
A mic I have heard very good things about that is at the top of your budget is The SE electronics SE1a.

Just my opinion..

If there's a Long & Mcquades in North Bay they will help you out.pedrocosta wrote:Wow!
Thank you Bruce.
I was really hoping to not spend that much.
I wish there was a place i could get loaners to actually be able to record and hear the difference to then gauge if it would be worth spending the extra $
They rent studio gear.

I have a pair, they're okay. I don't really like them on ac guitar, but on hi-hat they're great.
They are a bit dark for a small diaphram condenser, but they sound good (not great).
Sorry to sound underwhelmed, but I would save up some more$ and get an AKG 451 eb.

Thanks Mark,
All feedback if great feedback
I've been able to find some at a very low price. Gonna try them out but I don't like them I'll just turn around and resell. Unless I find another use for them in the studio.
Still in the market for a new vocal mic though. Guess the large condensers are ideal? I saw some good prices on Bruce's fave the AT4033. Tempted to pull the trigger on one.

I've never heard a complaint. The self-noise spec is lower than a Neumann KM184, but higher than the Audio-Technica model mentioned earlier.pedrocosta wrote:For the price those CADs are worth a try for sure.
Maybe I should get those just to try it out and see.
Are they noisy?

I have a pair of the CAD CM-217s that were a freebee with something I bought at Musician's Friend a couple years ago. I don't think I ever using them ( It took me a while to find them over the weekend ). If you would like these, PM a address you would like them sent to, and I will stick them in the mail.. I want to keep the clips, so you will need to find 2 mic clips for them
