Something’s Gotta Be Done ©2016 Robert George BMI
Since I lost my badge and pension on the Boston force
I’ve been workin’ nights at County General moppin’ floors
It’s the seventh time this year
That poor woman’s been in here
Though she claims she’s clumsy and she stumbles on her stairs
Nurses say she won’t file charges cos she’s way too scared
She’s got stitches on her chin and cheeks
I grabbed her chart and snuck a peek
And clouds were gath’ring when I got off work at one
Then I took a trolley car, to a rain-soaked boulevard
Thinkin’ something’s gotta be done
Well, I pulled my collar up against the wind and mist
Fin’lly found the right address and clenched my fist
Then I kicked the front door in
Stormed inside and confronted him
Though it crossed my mind to bring a gun
I want him to understand, the feel of hard, bare hands
Because something’s gotta be done
Something’s gotta be done
As I walked back home that night I felt my knuckles bleed
And I looked away from mirrors puddled on the street
Cos I see my dad’s reflection ev’ry time I shave
And I feel the spirit of the woman that I couldn’t save
And I know that soon my time will come
I’ll get caught one day, and a mean old judge will say
That something’s gotta be done
Something’s gotta be done
Since I lost my badge and pension on the Boston force
I’ve been workin’ nights at County General moppin’ floors…
