Wow, some great responses here today from AJ, Grandmartarkin, Jeffe, Steve and Horace. I won't reply to every post, just lurk, hehe, some of the time or reply when the 'time fairies' grant me a little leeway. I have actually taken Horace's advice to heart about practicing more on my guitar, and I'm devoting more time to songwriting......so I have to choose between posting like a banshee, or working on my music...ah time, it's golden these days. So, Steve and Jeffe will become Ultimate members before I do, sniffle, but I'll be around lurking somewhere. Y'all continue the thread.....interesting stuff being posted.

For some reason, the first song that popped into my mind was "Working For The Weekend" by Loverboy. And I was never into "hair" bands, but that is one strong hook! --- How about "Just What I Needed" and "You're All I've Got Tonight" by the Cars. Ya gotta admit that band had some hooks!Guitar licks: "Daytripper": Beatles"You Really Got Me": Kinks/Van Halen"Dazed And Confused": Led Zeppelin (great bass line)jchitty: "Brickhouse" has to be one of the best dance hooks of all time!So many more, but I gotta go! Chit's original list made a fact about lyrical hooks really stand out to me. To discover this fact just write down what you think the lyrical hooks in those songs were. As you view the list something you already knew about hooks but may never have verbalized will become immediately apparent.

My sister sang this at the piano bar where I play while I accompanied her. At the time, I was a fair bit heavier. Needless to say, I was not impressed. grrrahem... Back to the topic:Bad Day, Daniel Powter. that song is ALL hook.Don't forget jingles... Byyyyyyyyyyyyyy Mennen! I remember this one fondly as it was referenced in Seinfeld Also, that song that goes (i think by Leo Sawyer?) "When I neeeeeed love, I just hold your hands and I touuuuuuch love", etc.

The Leo Sayer song was called "When I need you". It's been covered a few times too.

Yeah, but HJ is that the chorus? I thought it was the lyric for the bridge!!!

I've been trying to think of songs that I remember for the hooks, rather than the words.Another one is:"House of the rising sun" - Animals
It's been said that I have Murderous eyes.
