Good luck on your 4th year, man. I also renewed today. Shoot for the stars and hit the moon, they say. :D
Don't shoot for them with a peashooter I say.

Good luck in your 4th year
Thanks man. I like peashooters, though. They tickle so good :-)

Interesting post. I appreciate the feedback you have given me in the peer to peer. I am a member for almost one year now, and it is a lot of learning for me. I don’t have all free tools, but I do spend frugally. I think there is a consensus that it is more how samples are used than their cost that makes the sound, for what that is worth, not discounting other opinions. This is a tough business, and no guarantee that if we do sink big money into equipment we will get it returned. I have already improved in many areas and I thank all of you fellow TAXI members for support.

I keep getting emails from Music For Income, some of it's just advertising waffle but there are usually some good tips or words of wisdom

This came today, so it seems pertinent to this thread which got bumped coincidentally

---snip ---
Want to know the two big things that composers who fail at production music never figure out?

1) There are formulas that work. You need to know them.
2) Instead of learning what the techniques are by trial and error, (which can take decades)...
...find somebody who has what you want, and seek out what they are doing differently to you.

Successful composers and producers aren't "lucky". They're just doing things differently to you.

Are you trying to get your music into libraries by trial and error? AKA, you're doing the best you can, but with no results?

Let me introduce you to some people doing things differently to you.

Hi Tom,
I've only been a member for 1 year and am on the fence about renewing as I've only had 2 forwards out of tons of submissions and no deals. It's costing a fortune with little result. I'm surprised you didn't get a deal with your "Deceptive Moves." Very nice motifs and harmonic structure. To me it had a good developmental arc and the string sounds were very impressive. I could easily see that to be used in a tension drama application. By the way, can you tell me what the free software was that you used for those orchestral samples? I'd really like to try it.
Best,
Allen

Congrats Tom!
Very inspiring thread and a great read.. the relationship that Mark and Tom display is a perfect example of how feedback in the Forums should be used and received.. love this! And again Tom this is great news that you met those goals!

1. Forward rate to 25%, then 33%.
2. A deal.
3. A placement! :)
1. :(
2. Done.
3. Done.

Just saw this one... and your post from way back about a Patriotic song idea?

EDIT: sorry for the poor editing. :? 8-)

Hi CTWF

great post and thread. I just finished my fifth year (apparently I am not on the five year plan)
and was getting a bit discouraged... Our stories and paths are quite similar.
Reading your post made me stop and recognize that all the things you pointed out are things that I have learned as well. There is forward movement
and I am doing better than I think I am
This post just turned my head around, towards the things ahead of me. Thanks.
And I agree, you are not approaching this as a hobby. I see a very professional attitude in all you've done.
thanks for the wake up call
Good Luck
