stompin on religion a bit...your thoughts ?
I was brought up in a strict Catholic environment. But even as a young lad I was already challenging some of the doctrines? Anyway I didn't sing this yet, but I did try it this morning It was almost comical on the playback.. Yesterday I was diagnosed with both a sinus infection and covid. I can see how folks can die from this. Any thoughts on the lyrics would be cool. Otherwise, carry on
I was taught to believe
Is there a God…how can I know Fmaj7 Cmaj7
If there is one….why doesn’t he show Fmaj7 Cmaj7
Is there really fire down below G C
No one’s ever come back.. from the other side Am Em F C
I’m not sure.. where I’ll go ..on the day I die F C G
This question’s been forever.. so where’s my path ahead
Do I sail into the clouds ..or will I just be dead F C G…..C
I was taught.. to believe..in an ancient old creed G
From this century’s old tale..would be everything I need F
I had doubts.. kept inside.. that i knew I’d have to hide..they said G
in this world you will succeed…if you believe F G Am……..
Is there a hell …the good book does say Fmaj7 Cmaj7
Why would god do that…just to make me pray Fmaj7 Cmaj7
Follow my parents or just go my own way G C
I just need a sign..for me to believe Am Em F C
Maybe just a whisper in the wind F C G
A happening.. and I will change doubtfulness will leave Am Em F C
My fleeting thoughts I truly will rescind F G C

According to 1000s of near death experiencers who report astonishingly aligned things, this is not true. NDE itself seems to be a misnomer.

In junior school I couldn't understand why they ( the R.E and Sunday Schoolteachers ) were pedalling such nonense. As I got older I realised it's to do with control and fostered by indoctrination.

Hi, feaker...I hope you're feeling better.
The lyric itself is pretty straightforward. My mom was an Irish Catholic, so I can relate to your questions, many of which I once had myself.
Many renowned scientists, such as Aristotle and Isaac Newton believed in God, just based on there being order and causality in the universe.
Newton was also a keen Bible student. Most of your questions are answered in the Bible. For example, your lyric says no one has ever died and come back.
Two of the Gospel writers, Matthew and John, were eyewitnesses to Jesus' resurrection. They wrote authentic, compelling accounts of what they experienced.
Textually, the New Testament is the best attested ancient document. Go to a used book store, buy a modern English
version like the New Living Translation, put on some John Williams, and read it.
Start with Luke, then read Acts. Both by the same author. Acts is the sequel to Luke.
I'll give you the same advice I would about Bible study as I would about songwriting. Ignore all the mentors. Guys in long robes and funny hats with scepters? Smarmy televangelists on cable news telling you how to vote?
Disregard them all. Go directly to the source. The Bible is the most magnificent, powerful book ever written.
That should appeal to a writer

This song was a fun read for me, and I'm not usually much of a "lyrics only" guy. I'd be interested to hear how this sounds when set to music.
Hope you're over your bout with Covid + sinus infection. My daughter and I just recently got over sinus infections, and now she's been blasted with the flu. Ugh!

Hi Freaker! From one Catholic to another. I've had all the same questions you have. I always wondered if there was any scientific proof of a god or higher intelligence. I found a book called "Theomatics" by Del Washburn. It amazed me as I read it, that the Bible was written like a mathematical formula. No other book in history has been written this way. They didn't have computers back then, so it is truly amazing how this can be,
Anyway, that's all the preaching that I am up to today Check the book out or go to it online if you are interested.
Great lyrics for all of us still asking questions!
Tom

Without a doubt, there is a mathematical beauty to the Bible. But the best way to experience that beauty, is to read the book itself.
