Stop and Smell the Roses ©2016 Robert George BMI
You were always wakin’ early, workin’ hard
I’d see you pass sweet wild flowers in the yard
All those dirt poor seasons on that dusty farm
Bent your back and burned your neck and arms
Yeah, you spent your days in such a rush
That you never got to travel much
Now you’re up there trav’ling far n wide
Out among the distant stars tonight
With Jesus, Abraham and Moses
So if you’re on a stardust trail
Riding bareback on a comet’s tail
I still hope you stop and smell the roses
Time is coming when our breath will all be spent
We’ll look back and ask what it all meant
I can only guess
But sometimes happiness
Is an April flower’s scent
Now you’re up there trav’ling far n wide
Out among the distant stars tonight
With Jesus, Abraham and Moses
So if you’re on a stardust trail
Riding bareback on a comet’s tail
I still hope you stop and smell the roses
Stop and smell the roses
I’m here at the midnight hour
All alone
And I lay these scarlet flowers
By your stone
Cos you’re up there trav’ling far n wide
Out among the distant stars tonight
With Jesus, Abraham and Moses
But if you’re on a stardust trail
Riding bareback on a comet’s tail
I sure hope you stop and smell the roses
Stop and smell the roses
Stop and smell the roses…
