I'm selling a Tele exactly like this

http://www.joetheguitarman.com/9%2013%2 ... 20page.htm

to buy one of these

http://www.parkerguitars.com/DragonFly-Models/

My Tele is a collectible but it's an excellent guitar, gorgeous Tele sound. It's a 1982 '52 Reissue. They're very hot right now so the price is high but if anyone's interested send me a P.M..
I've given up on new Fenders, the intonation is rarely what it should be, but I love the sound and versatility of Strats. So I'm thinking this new Parker model is going to fill that void. My Parker Fly is an incredibly well constructed guitar, but I really like the pickup configuration and the 5 position switch on the new Dragonfly. The one I'm buying is a neck through model but they also have a bolt on neck model for less money which is supposed to be an excellent guitar as well.
Maybe you'll find a Fender that works for you, I've had a few, but they're kind of hard to find.

The one pictured is going for $3400. I was really lucky, found a prototype on ebay and got it for $2500, it arrives tomorrow. I posted a picture on the Parker forum and the manager of the production facility said he remembers it. They were experimenting with Douglas Fir, so it has a DF body and basswood neck. He says it sounds fantastic, but they decided ultimately to go with an alder body instead. I'm totally stoked, it's a one of a kind with a one of a kind finish and at a killer price.

There are some bolt on Dragonflys on ebay left over from NAMM that are going for anywhere form 1k to 1.5k. I don't think they are in stores yet. I know that one thing Parker wanted to do was create a guitar with that classic single coil p/u sound like a strat has, that's what I'm hoping for.

I know what you mean about the PRS, they're really well put together guitars but I've just never warmed up to them for some reason. I love strats, I hope you find a good one. I just wanted to let you know about that Dragonfly bolt on, they refer to it as a C lock I think. If you can spend the cash it might suit you.

Good to know about the ampmaking a difference. I bet my old Fender Twinn would make the difference. The line six is not complementary. Paid 1500 bucks for the ES 335. Doesn't have two hours on it. Sounds like a $200 guitar. Had one in the early seventies. Our trailer let loose on the way to a gig and it snapped in half.

That is a good point about the amp. The have line 6 amps at the guitar center. I will call and ask if I need to bring mine or if the in house ones will do?

Thanks guys

As long it's the same brand and model, it doesn't matter.

Paul! How did I miss this one? I have fairly small hands, and of course love my '63 Strat with the rosewood fingerboard. I had it refretted in about '77, but bought it with NO finish on it --- sanded down to the bare wood. It's still like that. Looks like the old guitar it is!

As I mentioned elsewhere, I recently saw a video on YouTube with Pete Townsend's guitar tech. Pete plays an Amererican Standard Stratocaster. Imagine that, a $1000 guitar when he could own any guitar in the universe. His techie says it's a REAL nice guitar. I've never played one, though. Of course, he plays through the best amps money can buy.

One tip: If you go to a guitar shop with lots to choose from, play Strats, Teles etc. WITHOUT plugging them in to an amp. They should "sing" by themselves, feel just right in your paws, and stay in tune! I bought a Japanese Strat as a stage backup guitar, and it sounded great, but would NOT stay in tune. I sold it.

Personally, I would buy a couple Strats if I ever sold my '63. One with only single coil pickups, and one with a humbucker as the bridge pickup. A 5-way pickup switch is also nice, but I rarely if ever use it the "out-of-phase" sounds, except maybe for a rhythm track here and there.

HTH,

Hey Paul,

I just researched maybe what 'I' would buy if I bought two Stratocasters. I admit you have to play them, but here is one with a humbucker as the lead pickup:

And here's me playing my '63 Strat as it is and has always been, with no finish on it. Looks old, and it is! I've seen American Standard Stratocasters that look kinda like this with single coil pickups:

Good hunting!

You say "sing" I say "ping"
Yeah its a real time saver.

Feaker

WOW....if you get an amp and a guitar you will of course be walking out with "the" sound............no risks on what it will sound like when you get home.......yeah..........thats gonna be fun.

Does this mean we need to start a great strat amp thread? I love my twin but it does get loud and is heavy.

ps dont forget to take your es335 for the amp check. Would be really interesting to hear how it varied over a range of amps.

The reason Strats, Teles and Les Pauls were popular to begin with is that they sound great through almost any amp; in the sixties and seventies when some of the most expensive vintage guitars were being built, it was much easier to find a decent amp than a decent guitar. Nowadays there's tons of amps, but relatively few really great ones, (and the great ones tend to have hefty price tags) but most guitars you can pick up and gig with, almost without regard to price.
