Say Paul, I just had a thought: You've got some nice hardwood up in the U.P. Have you ever thought about building you own solid-body guitar out of birch or maple? I've got a friend in N. Minnesota who builds his own drums out of logs. Really! I believe he uses deer hide as heads. They sound fantastic. Pretty amazing!

I'll try and post a picture if I can find it.

Just a thought,

Ern 8-) :)

Ern

Pretty funny, I am presently in here trying to get the name of that amp you were talking about.

I am looking at the guitar center for the strats. So many to choose from of the American built.

I just called a friend who said he can get custom pick-up etc.

I have thought of building one in fact. Yes I have 28 acres of solid maple as a resource:)

Lots of info generated by this post.

Here ya go! Tom's drums:

Pretty cool, eh? Tom is the king of the "Jug Band" drummers. They always drive down to play in Da-loot (Duluth) and drive the crowd wild (or numb, depending if you like out-of-tune playing and weird instruments!).

:D

A tele body is really easy to make as its just a cut out plank with some routing.
My freind made two. He bought the necks.

It would be great if you had a guitar cut from your garden!

Actually, my Soldano is a tube preamp. I use a Peavey 60/60 tube power amp, 'cause I used to have two cabinets and went stereo.

Soldano amp heads, with the power amp in it, are VERY expensive. Clapton plays through one, to give you an idea.

There are so many nice tube amps out there. Matchless, Mesa Boogie, and on and on. Some guys like old Marshall "Plexies" from the 60's, and they sound great, but are big $$ and probably noisy. I know that Pete Townsend plays through a $5000 Fender Vibro-King Custom combo amp!. And many guitarists still love Vox AC-30's which were made famous by the Beatles. Brian May (Queen), Tom Petty's band, lots of top players still play through AC-30's. Love to have one, but $2000+!

Have fun in looking!

I have a friend who can build you a custom Soldano clone, or any other design you might like. http://rhodesamplification.com/
