SYMPHOBIA half price vs Komplete 11

Post by SteveBaruah » Thu May 31, 2018 5:29 am

Hi All,

Just seen that SYMPHOBIA is currently half price at €289.
How does it compare to say Komplete which is currently €599?
I looking to get my first big orchestra library and can't decide.
Any others I should consider in this price range?

Thanks!

I have both.

Symphobia is a very specialized orchestral library. NI Komplete is a completely different animal, with lots of synths, pianos, gtr/basses, drums ect, but not orchestral sounds at the level of Symphobia.

They are nothing alike.

If you specifically need orchestral sounds for film scores, trailer work, ect. Symphobia is a steal for that price.

NI Komplete is great too, but the orchestral sounds NI have included in there is more something to supplement with. Not many stand alone orchestral sounds. Komplete excels more in other areas.

But it will depend upon you needs. Symphobia is one of the top orchestral libraries available, but there are not other types of sounds in there.

Hi Kolstad,

Thanks for the comparison.
I know Komplete also contains lots of synths, etc. but I work with Massive and I'm happy with it for now, so new synths, etc. would just be a bonus.
But if Symphobia has the better sounding orchestra library that's great to know.
Which Symphobia would you recommend? 1, 2, or 3? (see the link).

Thanks!

Just looking at some youtube videos of symphobia, it is very, very, cinematic. Amazing for score or trailers, but I can't imagine it in much else.
Komplete is going to be much more useful for electronic music.
I actually want both now :D

Steve,

I'm pretty heavy with string libraries.. but I just bought Symphobia 3 Lumina.. It nails the genres that it specializes in ( fantasy horror comedy, etc) and the multis are really good...

For those applications so far I could definitely recommend..
Happy to send you a sampling of it if you'd like...

John

Hi John,

Many thanks for the info.
Any thanks for the offer, but I can get a pretty good idea of the sound from the videos out there.

Cheers.

Yes, I think that is a pretty accurate assessment, Steve. I think they can be used in tv/production work as well though (especially with a breath controller).

But if electronic music is what you focus on, you probably dont need a really specialized orchestral library. The things in Komplete is quite good for that, and you can upgrade to ultimate. And you get so much else that is focused on electronic music with Komplete.

With ProjectSAM, Symphobia (the first) is the bread and butter library, and Symphobia 2 and Lumina are additions that makes the whole package very flexible and extends with smaller sections and solo instruments.

I generally like the ProjectSam sound(they use a special sampling technique to make their libraries sound very authentic), so I use their libraries as a foundation, and supplement with other libraries. You will find a lot that does the opposite, though, using the Symphobias to supplement what they have.

Thanks for this thread. Now I will be buying Symphobia too. My wife is going to murder me. If I wind up dead, please have the police read this post. Thanks.

Haha, we got you, Chaz!
My worst fear is that when I'm gone, my girlfriend will sell my gear for what I told her I paid for it.
