Takeaway from latest BMI statement

Post by JohnnyP » Fri Nov 18, 2022 11:44 am

I always try to write universal lyrics but this song "Moon To Your Star" just wanted to be written exactly the way it is. Lots of specific details, which are usually a no-no in our sync world.

I signed it in 2020 (along with 25 others) after a TAXI forward (thanks TAXI!) for a different song. Fast forward to this quarter's BMI statement and it looks like "Moon To Your Star" is getting some radio attention in Germany and especially Japan.

This industry is always full of surprises...

Nice song! I guess sometimes you can break the rules and win. However, I do notice that the chorus is pretty universal. Maybe that helped, and counts more than what happens in the verses?

Good point Vince. Chorus is pretty universal and that may be why it was signed.
And thanks for the nice words!

I agree with Vince, rules exist so that they can be broken, and we can do that in a way that is not immediately evident, too, which you certainly did, John :)

I like the fun and unusual stories and their back-road journey to success.
Sounds like a Country song.

Well done, Johnny!
And I'm sure it's just getting started with the royalties from your song! When listeners love a song in Japan, they want to make sure to play it again and again!
