Taxi.com website security problem

Post by musicliner » Sun Sep 13, 2009 11:18 am

I've just tried to submit a song for Y090914WO, which is due today, but I encountered a big problem.Apparently, checkout page is not secure. Here's a snapshot of security error message created when trying to make a submission. I have tried several browsers (IE8. Firefox, Avant, Orca) and they all report error - security warnings.Anyone had a similar issue? See attachment. Is there any other way to make a submission?George

From time to time I've seen this message when a website is perfectly fine. That doesn't mean there is no problem- you should call or email taxi's webmaster. There is the option in that message to continue and ignore the warning. I can't advise that you do that unless you get the all clear from taxi. Good chance its due to their 2.0 upgrade in process and a non-issue...

Thanks for the feeback, guys. I've sent an email to Craig from Taxi. Hopefully, I'll hear from them soon...

Right, it's the site security certificate. They expire because they have time limits on them and if they're not renewed in time (by the time you get to the site) you will get this message. When I would worry about seeing this is if you clicked a link in an email or something. But if you navigated here from Taxi's website, I wouldn't worry too much. That being said, it still doesn't mean nothing's wrong. In order to tell whether or not your transaction is secure is to either check next to the address bar in IE for a small lock or in the bottom right corner in Mozilla for the lock. If it's "closed" then the connection is secure. This can be the case even with an expired certificate - the certificate is basically just validation that Taxi is who they say they are. The protocol to send the secure information is SSL and shouldn't be affected by this.

I got a reply from Taxi earlier today, saying that the problem has been fixed. When I tried to submit, however, the same error message appeared. Regarding "the lock" symbol, it is actually open, indicating that the pages are NOT secure. In fact the browser shows a pop up warning...Taxi, please take care of this ASAP. We shouldn't have to be taking chances and thinking "I should be OK, I guess..." when submitting credit card info online.
