Certainly fits the genre to my ears. At first I thought something was missing until I realised the vocal wasn't drowning in autotune.

Sounds like a Disney Channel version of Avril Levigne.
Spot on, methinks!

Hey Neil,
I listened a couple of times and here are my impressions:
The style, arrangement, instrumentation are spot on IMO.
The vocal gets a bit tiring, let me explain. I think the singer is perfect, but the production/effect on the voice could use some switching/variation in the chorus.
And in the "no fun" part I think more voice tracks would be great (gang vocal)
After that a tad more polish on the mix/master.
Just my opinion, please take with grain of salt

Hey Pedro. Thanks for the feedback. Extra ears with fresh perspective is always welcome. I will certainly consider your advice.
Burpo, a Disney Avril is exactly what I was going for. LOL. Thanks.
David, I actually tuned the crap out of her. It took me about 3 hours. But not with Autotune. I'm a Melodyne "do it manually" user. Thanks for the comments!!

Hey, Neil
You didn't post the listing and I'm too unawake to check it out right now, but it sounds from the other comments as if it's on target. It struck me as Ms Lavingne too – very skater, from the word go.
But you want honesty, right? I personally think your verse is perfect – great premise, great lyric, vocal, everything... But the pre-chorus could be much stronger, IMHO. The prosody feels like it's one beat off, do you know what I mean?. It doesn't quite follow the rhythm of real speech, to my ears. And you know what I keep hearing everywhere? – put in some nonsense syllables. Seems like you have the ideal opporyunity here. The first 'You're No Fun' is great, but why not do a communal 'Whoa oh oh, oh oh oh' on the C, G#, F#, instead of repeating the first line? Like, all the gang, you know?
Do appreciate that all of this is just my opinion, and I've no idea what your deadline is for this, but to my mind this is a song with all kinds of potential beyond this particular listings, and if this was mine I'd try to hone it more, get it as good as it can be. I'm convinced the long-term patoff will make it worth the while.
All said in the spirit of support, I hope you understand, not judgement, and only my 2-cents' worth. Best of luck with it, whatever route you take. Good song. Good luck.
Nick

Hey Nick. I'm not sure what you mean with the Whoa oh ohs. It sounds cool, but I guess I'd have to hear it.nick.moxsom wrote:The first 'You're No Fun' is great, but why not do a communal 'Whoa oh oh, oh oh oh' on the C, G#, F#, instead of repeating the first line? Like, all the gang, you know?
Thank you for putting thoughts into it and sharing them. Much appreciated.

Sorry, dude, I didn't make myself clear.
The girl sings "You're no fun", then it's repeated twice by the b/vox. If those three nores were "oh"s each time it would sound cool, I think. Just my thoughts...
HTH,
Nick
