Tension forward for HBO
Hi All,
Recently had the following forwarded for this listing- TENSION-BUILDING INSTRUMENTAL UNDERSCORE CUES are needed by a NON-Exclusive Music Library that’s supplying music to a hit HBO TV show. They’re on the hunt for great Instrumental Cues that can generally match the vibe, style, and serious intensity of these references we got from the library: Sicario Soundtrack - The Border: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tREkYd7B2Fs “Area 51” by Alexandre Desplat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFTDNRdjTyE Sicario Soundtrack - The Beast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdm5EkaPdeY Please submit well-crafted Instrumental Cues that have a serious tone/mood, yet are somewhat subtle, and can still move a scene forward. If your Cue can add some tension to a scene without being busy or frenetic, you could be in the ballpark! Build your submissions around a simple, focused melodic theme, while adding and subtracting various instruments as it progresses to give your Cue some interest, dynamics, forward movement and to keep it from sounding overly repetitive. TAXI Tip: The examples above are really your best guide for this pitch, but they’re not looking for clones! Your Cues should be approximately 90 seconds long, give or take. Non-faded endings with a natural decay/ring out are recommended. This TV Series has a high standard for the music they use, so please make sure to submit your very best material for this pitch! Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This Library offers a NON-Exclusive 50/50 deal.
My Version was kind of a Desplat/johansson hybrid..

Grateful for the forward...

Hi JD, I think you successfully achieved the dramatic impact that this listing was calling for (and that I missed in my submissions). Good job!
Graham (UK). Still composing a little faster than decomposing, and 100% HI.

Nice work! Congrats!
P.S. I'd love to know what library/technique you used for the sound that enters in at the 1:00 mark! LOVE that!

Re: Tension forward for HBO
Thanks Graham and Dave,
Appreciate the comments.. Dave - the "Lo Horn Splats" that come in at around 1:00 and also at 1:28 were from Cinebrass Core patch of "Bass trombone and Tuba" .The note was played at D1( really low) and bounced, then processed with a bit of distortion and then deep reverb... also did some fading to alter attack a bit- so it sounded SOMEWHAT like the Johannson reference .-didn't bend the notes down like he did though...
Thanks again for checking in- hope to see you at the Rally!!!

Re: Tension forward for HBO
Congrats on the forward! Nice subtle tension build throughout--I made mine a bit too overpowering and didn't have the subtlety they were looking for (a tendency of mine I'm working to overcome )

Re: Tension forward for HBO
I tend to make things too busy--hard to be laid back without the piece losing energy/momentum.
