The Beatles' Secret Sauce

If you're like me, you can get kind of obsessive about certain vintage recordings and their associated capture and mix techniques. If so, you should probably just go buy this, while it's on sale for $49. https://www.waves.com/plugins/abbey-roa ... udio-demos If you're not like me, you should probably also go buy this, because it has an unique ability to transform obviously electronic sounds into something decidedly more organic.

If that was all it did, it'd be a steal, but when I demoed it, a light went on and I dug out my copy of Geoff Emerick's book about recording the Beatles and yep, he hardly ever used the Abbey Road plate reverbs, as they'd never been installed correctly, at least during his tenure, so it's a fair bet that Waves' AR Plates aren't going to sound much like the Fab Four reverb it's touted as.

This plugin is the real deal, so if you want the effect heard when Lennon sang, "I read the news today, oh, boy...", it's in this one. The single caveat is that it's a resource hog, but in my opinion, it's very much worth it.

I use this plugin all the time and can attest to how stellar it is. It’s the perfect reverb for when you need something to sound like the real deal without having the reverb as a focal point.

Excellent tool for the arsenal!

Though $49 is a good price, if you keep your eye on Wave’s daily deals you might be able to get this for $26. I think I got it on one of their sale deals for $29.

Very cool. This plugin is now on sale for $29.99 at the Waves website - lots of other deals there now as well.

Was thinking about taking advantage of this Waves sale. Is there anything else in particular you would recommend? I've never bought any of their plug-ins before and they have the deal where if I buy a couple get one free.

Wait, I'm a little confused. Your link was for the Abbey Road plugin, but you said in your post that Emerick didn't much use the Abbey Road reverbs for that sound.

Or was I not paying enough attention (which is certainly possible given my lockdown brain right now)?

I think the OP was referencing two different types of reverb. The Waves plugin is based on Abbey Road's echo chamber. The OP mentions the use of plate reverbs.

I picked up both the Abbey Road Chambers and the Plates plugins during the Cyber monday sale-- along with some other plugins that I had demo'd and wanted to buy. I was in the market for a new reverb and had some others that I was considering-- but the sale price on these during Cyber Monday (Buy two plugins at $29 a piece, get two free) was impossible to pass up.

I got the new CLA Epic and it's pretty cool too.
