The drill on library deals
Hi, many listings say "If you don't understand the drill on library deals, they politely ask that you don't submit to this request." What exactly IS the drill & how do I learn if I haven't "worked with music libraries and music licensing companies in the past"?

Good answer Tom...I would say don't "just " sign on the dotted line but have enough understanding of what normal deals look like to be able to sign without any noob type questions as you alluded toCTWF wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 9:48 amDrill = Don't ask questions, just sign the dotted line, be able to produce alt-mixes and stems overnight.MickLee wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 3:58 amHi, many listings say "If you don't understand the drill on library deals, they politely ask that you don't submit to this request." My 4 cents as someone who does not know the drill from own experience!

I am kind of put off by this language as well. I have signed deals and there is no one 'drill'. Why not just say what the drill is?

My thoughts too Johnny. It's like one of those - 'you have to be in the club to be allowed in the club' things

Yeah. I can understand that they don't want to do a bunch of negotiation over each deal. But OTOH, as I said, there is no one deal.
If you haven't signed other deals before, I'd say just be prepared to either accept or reject what they offer. (Read it carefully!) Most don't want to fool around with negotiating. If you pass on the offer, be nice and respectful about it. good luck!
