So true. I recently had to bring back a computer chair that was making me sick. It was full of toxic chemicals.

For years, I hesitated saying the words, "multiple chemical sensitivity." When I got first got sick, my allergy doctor told me I was suffering with it, but that they had no cure other than just to try to de-tox yourself, which I did. That meant cleaning up my environment around me, ripping out the new carpet, purchasing an organic cotton mattress to sleep on (so expensive...really killed my budget, still paying for it on the credit card) and removing things from my home that bothered me. That was five years ago, and people who reacted to chemicals back then were thought of as nutty. There are still articles on the internet which insist that sensitivity to chemicals 'is all in our heads.' Luckily, that's changed over the last five years. People are now becoming aware that yes, you can sick breathing in the fumes from offgassing plastics, furniture, vinyl, carpets, bleach, and of course, petroleum etc.
For years, chemical companies like Dow suppressed information about how harmful chemicals were to humans. And they conducted studies using their own doctors to insist that chemical sensitivity was all in people's minds....many of the studies posted on the internet are extremely biased. They of course, favor the chemical companies because they don't want people to know what's really going on.
I'm sure if people get sick in the Gulf, BP's gonna insist it's not that bad....watch for it.
Sorry to hear about your computer chair....hope you don't have to use it a lot.
