There really aren't many cheap ergonomic options, but we're spending a lot of hours seated; you can put a price on comfort, but maybe not your health.

The above has arms, but they're adjustable, to a point. Maybe even removable, check the links. In the under $500 category, there's this: https://tapeop.com/reviews/gear/130/fre ... dle-stool/
And here's a thread from GearSlutz on the subject: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much ... -back.html

Re: The MOST important piece of gear?
I agree most heartily with Mojo. I tried lots of chairs and most either hurt my back or were just uncomfortable in general. This is one area where you have to be willing to invest in yourself and your health. Had it not been for the arms issue, I'd have been in a Herman Miller Aeron in a heartbeat. That, for me, is The most comfortable chair of its type I have ever had the pleasure to experience. So nice...
Anyway, it's such a personal thing I wish anyone looking the best of luck and don't be scared away by the prices. Sometimes you can omit certain options to lower the price or they have a lower end model.

Hi Dave,DaveZ wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2019 2:54 pmDoes anyone have a good recommendation for a chair that allows you to sit with your guitar (not classical position)? Seems like the one thing I can't find a good option for. I like the flip up arms on some gaming chairs but the padding is typically suspect and uncomfortable.
Thanks,
Dave
I know exactly what you mean and I have tried different options for mixing and playing guitar at the same time. To my own surprise I ended up with a very simple and cheap solution and I am actually quite happy with it... https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S29280910/
My home studio room is rather small and most of the gaming chairs seem rather clunky. Having something with a small footprint actually made me move a lot more. Another thing which is quite important to me: I want to be able to reach for my foot pedals, interface, microphone, mouse, cables etc. with ease and pro gaming / office chairs IMO have the tendency to lock you into a certain position. Just my five cents.
Cheers,
Matt

Im a guitarplayer too, and can definitely relate to this issue. I use a piano bench with a leather seat. No arm rests, cheap and it doesnt squeak. Works really well for me.

I have spine issues; it kinda complicates things. I've been using a spinup drum throne by Gibraltar, and the lack of wheels means I ruin fewer cables by rolling over them. It's probably best not to play everything from the mix position, so I have a remote to operate the DAW and three other stations in the room for tracking.

speaking of remote control, my folks just bought a pair of power recliners, they're okay, however when the dog jumps up on the chair and either steps on the buttons or licks them, the chair goes every which way, and the lights come on, and drinks
out of my glass if it's in the cup holder.

Re: The MOST important piece of gear?
This is indeed a hot topic! Thanks for all the input, good discussion for sure.
I pulled the trigger on the Capisco, I noticed it was mentioned on that gearslutz thread as well. With the return policy if it doesn't work I can send it back but it looks very promising to me.

Awesome! I hope it really works for you. I also hope you will update us once you have the chair and have used it for a bit.

Agreed! I didn't go crazy with the options so I'm hoping they can ship it out pretty quick and it will show up this week.tonedimension wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 8:26 amAwesome! I hope it really works for you. I also hope you will update us once you have the chair and have used it for a bit.

Re: The MOST important piece of gear?
The Capisco showed up yesterday. It's definitely not your typical chair but I must say I'm impressed, there are so many different ways to use it (adjustments as well) and I find it comfortable. My desk is kind of high so the monitors felt high, with the range of height on this I can adjust as needed and be close to the desk if desired. Got the footrest with the chair which is nice as well.
Long story short I think it's a keeper.
