The Rally

Post by Casey H » Sun Sep 05, 2010 8:14 am

I was honored to have been quoted from an old forum post in the latest Taxi listings email. I thought I'd re-post it since it's all so true and if anyone is on the fence about whether it's worth attending, this might help...
Hey all
One thing I wanted to mention – something obvious to many, not so much so to others...

TAXI members, especially newer ones, often have questions and concerns as they try to "figure it all out". Why aren't I getting forwards? What is broadcast quality? What's all this "a la" stuff? How can I get my music placed? What do A&R folks look for? How do I make my hook stronger? You mean I can get my music in film/TV? How do I go about getting demos? .... and so on... and so on...

The Rally is a place where just about every question imaginable can be answered in a few days. TAXI DOES provide a way (in addition to newsletters and this forum) to get every ounce of information you could possibly need. Nothing is kept as some deep & dark mystery. In fact, quite the opposite since the most successful members freely share their knowledge and experience all the time. This Rally had even more presentations from members themselves.

It angers me when I occasionally read complaints that TAXI wants to keep all this close to the vest to have reasons for returns and get more $5 submissions (which they don't make money on anyway). Nothing could be further from the truth.

I know travel expenses don't come easy especially during these tough times. It would never be for me to say how someone else should juggle their already stretched budget. If you want to make the most of your TAXI membership and career, attending at least one Rally is invaluable.

I just wanted to mention how much one can learn in a few days-- things that could turn the direction of a music career around in the blink of an eye. There really are no secrets.

:D Casey

Last year was my first rally, and it was the BEST THING I've ever done on just about every level. It's like being part of a major music Love fest, not to mention a business, networking and collaborating fest. All positive, all the way!

See you all there!

I am new to TAXI and going to my first Rally this Nov. I am looking for advice on what EXACTLY to bring (besides contact info, what do the CDs I bring contain? one song, song snippets, full songs, many songs). Plus any other tips on getting the most out of the show! I appreciate any advice from "the pros"! Smile. Tess Henley

Many of the veteran members can be found in the evenings in the lobby in fairly close proximity to the bar. Everyone is basically there to network so don't be shy about introducing yourselves around. A lot of great conversations are had at these impromptu gatherings, as well as a lot of fun.

We're gonna miss everyone this year :(

We are going through a transition right now. We're planning on moving to California in January, so we cannot afford to come to the Rally. Every $ extra we can come up with will go towards our move. We are very excited to be planning a move, but a bit sad that we have to miss our first Rally in 7 years.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A BLAST and I can't wait to see photos etc..
