There's a Strange Girl in My Bed

There’s a Strange Girl in My Bed ©2015 Robert George BMI

I got home at half-past midnight
After I’d been working late
Raven perching on the fencepost
Mist was swirling ‘round the gate
And the house was still and quiet
As I walked the darkened stairs
Then I saw a red moon, peeking in the bedroom
Perfume floated through the air

And I saw a lake of ebony curls
On the pillow and the bedspread
When she opened up her eyes,
It’s like I was hypnotized
Cos there’s a strange girl in my bed

Well, I met her by the seaside
Many months ago
And her green eyes were like sisters
To the ocean’s ebb and flow
And she played me Joni Mitchell
On a battered old cassette
She loves ancient cultures, poetry and sculptures
She’s like no one I have met

O she’s beautiful and mysterious
No one knows the life that she’s led
And she bends my will to hers,
With a spell I can’t reverse
O there’s a strange girl in my bed

She wears vintage clothing and scarves
From bayside thrift stores
Maker’s Mark will get her in the mood,
For midnight bathing in the nude
On deserted moonlit shores

I’m not certain what tomorrow holds
I don’t know what cards she has read
But she opens up her eyes,
And it’s like I’m mesmerized
Cos there’s a strange girl in my bed

Then she bends my will to hers,
With a spell I can’t reverse
There’s a strange girl in my bed
There’s a strange girl in my bed…
