Some really nice harmonica playing in there!

The mix really needs to be revisited, the instruments come and go quite a bit. The harmonica sounds excellent, but is too hot, then the guitar that comes in around 0:30 is really hot and all of the other instruments disappear. I don't think the vocal is stylistically strong enough to get past the screener. Also, there doesn't seem to be a standard form, the most common form is a 12-bar blues, but I'm not hearing any distinct phrases starting or stopping. The harp player needs to take more breaks as well, he plays for almost three minutes before the guitar solo.

Revisit the form, and follow the concept that there should be one musical focus point at a time. If it's the harmonica solo, make sure it is out front, but not too hot. When the vocal comes in, make sure everything else is out of the way and complementing it, but also be sure that the levels are all still good. Try to create some more structure to the song so that it flows more smoothly and sounds less like just a jam with everyone playing at the same time and then stopping at the end. :)

Some good elements in here to work with, I'd start with the mix, then the form.

Hi Paulie - Really appreciate the comments. A new version is up now, our attempt to move in the direction you describe.

If ultimately we decide to hire a vocalist for this, wondering if anyone has suggestions for who might be good?

Hello. I really dig the bass line at the intro but the mix is off sounds disjointed. Bass/drums fade to the back when guitar/harmonica and vocals come in. Some is levels but some might be EQ.

I would set up a solid bass/drum/guitar rhythm section that drives the song and then mix in the lead guitar/harmonica & vocals to try and get the balance right.

Its a cool sounding tune but hard to judge without a vocal more in genre.

Good luck!!

Hi again. Lots of good elements in this one. Your vocal delivery has little emotion and the timing is off in many places. Should have a growl to fit the mood. You have to FEEL this baby. keep at it
Thankfully, while growing old is compulsory, growing up remains optional!

Thanks for the listen, feaker!

Attempted the growl thing for another listing (Classic Southern Blues Songs):

Shakespeare Blues
