Two returns for Asian Beats

Post by Paulie » Wed Oct 19, 2022 6:38 pm

Thought I nailed this one, especially after listening to the two forwarded tracks from the previous listing that was referred to in the description. My submissions were Late Night Shinkansen and Akihabra Food Cart. Current beats and sounds, the same that have been forwarded and placed many times. Melodic theme and variation, some more so than the two references in the Trap style. This one makes me wonder if the screener critically listened to the references. I know, I know... why vent about a return, just write, submit, forget, repeat... but I am having an incredibly shitty week, and it is frustrating when the feedback is inconsistent, and comparisons to previously forwarded material makes my tracks look favorable. Maybe I'll get the chance to learn more about this if I get to meet any screeners at the Rally next month. ;) I'm looking forward to hearing the forwards for this one. /rant /vent ;)
A Bunch of FAR EAST-Inspired INSTRUMENTALS with BEATS are needed by a great Music Library with lots of success in Film and TV placements for a variety of TV, Film, Promotional, and Advertising opportunities.
NOTE: We previously ran this request as Dispatch Listing #D220825FE, but the Company is looking for more material, so they asked us to try again. If you submitted to listing #D220825FE, please send different material this time around.
This Library is searching for a range of Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the general ballpark of the following references:

"Koto" by CloZee

"No Gods" by Free Flow Flava

"Lanterns" by Xomu

"Ethereal Japan" by ndls404 feat. Morokiri

Although some of the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this request. Please submit well-produced Instrumentals that blend traditional Far East Asian musical elements (think Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc.) with modern Electronic, Trap, and/or Hip-Hop beats. Your submissions should have captivating motifs, energizing rhythms, vibrant arrangements, and polished production. Instrumentation that's in the general ballpark of the references will work best for this request. We recommend crafting your pieces around a central motif and layering instrumentation in and out as they progress to create a sense of dynamics, interest, and forward motion.

Hey Paulie, I think your tunes are great, I find they are closer to the "Ethereal Japan" reference, and I would have forwarded them.

You did not post the screener's critique, would be interesting to know what they remarked

Sorry, forgot that part. :) Listening to the references in my chosen genre, my melodic development is right in line with the structure of the references. A simple melody, a second melody, a return to the first. Very basic stuff. Feedback below.

Akiabra Food Cart

What I like most about this song
Solid work overall with good energy.

I think you could improve this song by
For this specific listing, I'd suggest developing the melody a bit further for a slightly more captivating motif sounds to help compete with the reference tracks.

I returned or forwarded this song because
I returned this instrumental because it's slightly off target. It's in the right ballpark but the melody needs some work to get there.

LateNight Shinkansen

What I like most about this song
Nice flute sound and a melodic feel.

I think you could improve this song by
A slightly more energetic mood would be necessary for this one to help match the description. I'd also suggest using some stronger drum sounds to help match the references a little better.

I returned or forwarded this song because
I returned this instrumental because it's a bit off target in regards to the mood and drums, and needs some additional work on both.

When I compare your cues to the references, especially, " Ethereal Japan" FWIW, I think your cues sound excellent and match the brief. The only thing I can think of is the references have slightly busier beats. Maybe that's what the screener meant by more energy? Are you considering following up with the head screener to get some clarification?

I returned this instrumental because it's slightly off the mark for this listing. It's in the right ballpark but the melody and drums need some adjustments.

Hi Paulie, sorry for that, hang in there! :)
I understand what you mean by 'inconsistent feedback'...

You sent solid tracks that could have been forwarded IMTHO

Uhm, the melody is something quite subjective, perhaps another screener would have been ok with forwarding the Akihabara track.

I can agree a tad more with the feedback on the other tune, but again I think another screener might have forwarded it.

Both tunes are great IMHO :)

Maybe if you can teach me how you do it i can post it here and would really appreciate it
  • First, click on "My Profile" at the top right of the Taxi.com page (a drop down menu under your user name). Do NOT click the "View Public Profile" link in the right menu of your profile page.
  • Then, click on the pencil icon at the far right of the track you want to share. This is the Edit feature.
  • Make sure the "Public" checkbox is selected. If not, select it then save your track (scroll down to find the "Update" button at the bottom of the page).
  • To get a shareable link, look for the "Share with Collaborators" icons at the bottom left of the track display. Click the first icon on the left, it is a link icon. Click the OK button to close the popup.
Now you have the link that you can share in the forums or any other way.
