Upbeat Americana/Folk - Forward - "You are my Sunshine" replacement

Post by johnnyrowing » Tue Dec 12, 2023 10:26 pm

I am happy (well, not so much happy as thrilled) to share that I did receive a forward for one of the tracks submitted for S231208YM - https://www.taxi.com/industry#listing-S231208YM

Here's the feedback - track - and lyrics.

What I like most about this song
I dig this one, Johnny.

Nicely done

I think you could improve this song by
I'd love to hear a bit more articulation within this vocal delivery to enhance the lyric however this still feels like it could work.

I returned or forwarded this song because
I'm going to give this one a shot...
Nice work, Johnny.

Hold the wagon, I got goods to come
I got flour for the biscuits, butter for when they get done
Tell Miss Sarah, I am coming home
She should heat the oven and I’ll eat whatever she puts on

Home, home, home ain’t where the heat is
Home, home, home ain’t where the meat is
Home, home, home ‘s wherever she is
Wherever she is, that is home . . .

Hitch the horses, let them reach a run
Feel the bump’n and let it be your singin’s drum
Roads we travel they may offer fun
But a fire at home is as good as good times come

Home, home, home ain’t where the heat is
Home, home, home ain’t where the meat is
Home, home, home ‘s wherever she is
Wherever she is, that is ho-o-o-me

Douse the lantern I got dreams to come
I got prayers to offer up to the only Perfect One
This ain’t Heaven but it hints at it
I am thankful for the gifts that come from the Lord above

Like, home, home, home where the heat is
Home, home, home where the meat is
But mostly home wherever she is
Wherever she is, that is ho-o-o-me . . .
Ho-o-ome, ho-o-ome,
Wherever she is, that is ho-o-o-me

Congratulations Johnny, your instrumentation in particular captures the mood 100 percent. I also had a forward here, but you adapted the style and sound of the given song even better.

Hi Cowriter/Andy,
Thanks for the kind words. :)

I gave your account a follow a few weeks ago. I listened to tons of your tracks. They are so clean and clear. I like your stuff.

I just listened to your track "My Sunny Side" and it is beautifully sentimental and heartwarming. I love it.

Did you do the Dobro and Fiddle?

Here's to hope.

Johnny

Thanks Johnny, I'm really happy that you like my stuff. Since I've been doing nothing other than recording and mixing professionally for 30 years, I've now got my sound pretty much under control. 8-)
I recorded the fiddle via midi with a sample sound, the dobro came from a colleague in the UK. I guess you play all the instruments yourself, that's a big plus.

Best, Andy

Andy,
Yes. On this track I played them all myself. I REALLY wish I played fiddle.

There's a Bluegrass/Americana listing up that closes on Jan. 2nd. Would you have any interest in trying a collaboration on that one?

The timeframe is tighter than it might first appear as I'll likely be nearly non-existent (in terms of music) from the 22nd to the 27th. Still, if we got a good start on it before the 22nd, we could probably make some hay.
